Tea Party Patriots’ Honorary Chairman, Jenny Beth Martin, Issues Statement on Articles of Impeachment
Washington, DC – Jenny Beth Martin, Honorary Chairman of Tea Party Patriots Action, issued the following statement in response to House Democrats' decision to release two proposed articles of impeachment against President Trump: “The Democrats' decision to issue articles of impeachment against President Trump for 'obstruction of Congress' and 'abuse of power' is an unprecedented and dangerous attack on the separation of powers and executive privilege. Based on apparent Democrat standards of 'high crimes and misdemeanors,' nearly every previous American president could have been impeached and removed from office, beginning with George Washington: George Washington could have been impeached for 'obstruction of Congress' for denying Congress records of the Jay Treaty negotiation, which he refused, citing executive privilege. Thomas Jefferson could have been impeached for 'abuse of power' for enjoying support from the French Ambassador in the presidential election of 1796, while supporting a Treaty with Paris against the wishes of President Washington. Abraham Lincoln could have been impeached for 'abuse of power' for giving cabinet positions to people who supported him at the 1860 Republican National Convention, for suspending habeas corpus, and for using the US military to restrict the newspapers published by political opponents. Lyndon Johnson could have been impeached for 'abuse of power' for using the FBI and CIA to spy on political opponents, specifically bugging Barry Goldwater’s campaign plane, and for using CIA Director William Colby to prepare campaign material. Barack Obama could have been impeached for 'abuse of power' for weaponizing the IRS, which investigated conservative organizations that opposed many of his policies, and for 'obstruction of congress' for allowing his attorney general, Eric Holder, to withhold testimony and document production in the Fast and the Furious case. "Whatever articles the Democrats draw up are pure garbage. There was no collusion, there was no quid...
Atlanta, GA – Tea Party Patriots Action Honorary Chairman Jenny Beth Martin today responded to proposed ‘Medicare for All’ legislation set to be introduced: “’Medicare for All’ — better described as ‘single-payer’ health care, because it does away with all private insurance and turns over all decision-making power to government bureaucrats — is not the answer for the American health-care system. It's worth remembering that prior to the imposition of ObamaCare, 80% of Americans were satisfied with the quality of health care they received, and happy with their health-care coverage. Since the imposition of ObamaCare, premiums have skyrocketed, while deductibles have risen wildly, even as quality of care has dropped. Imposing single-payer health care would double down on the Obamacare disaster. We need to bring the free market back to health care and enhance competition and choice for patients nationwide. That will provide coverage and care Americans will be happy with, even as it helps keep costs under control." ###
Atlanta, GA – Tea Party Patriots Action Honorary Chairman Jenny Beth Martin responds to President Trump signing the bill to fund the government and declaring a national emergency at our southern border. Tea Party Patriots Action Honorary Chairman Jenny Beth Martin: “Tea Party Patriots Action supports President Trump’s decision to declare a national emergency at our southern border. It is maddening that Democrats in Congress refuse to acknowledge the crisis at our border and instead choose politics over the safety, security, and in many cases, the lives of the American people. They refuse to even listen to the experts who are charged with securing our border on a daily basis. The Democrats know full-well that the $5.7 billion requested by President Trump was for a broad solution that included many things even the Democrats have claimed are needed for border security, and yet they still refused to work with the president out of pure spite. We wonder, as support for President Trump and for the wall continue to increase, how much longer will Democrats put politics over the interests of the American people? It is a dangerous game they are playing, not only with their political futures, but with the lives of Americans as well. We applaud President Trump for working to keep his promise to the American people and fighting to make our country safe and secure.” ###
Atlanta, GA — Tea Party Patriots Action Honorary Chairman Jenny Beth Martin responds to President Trump’s remarks on border security and immigration reform in his State of the Union Address: “Without complete border security — which includes a wall, additional personnel, and technology — the border crisis will remain the issue that defines the state of our union. Tonight, President Trump made yet another well-reasoned case for his border security proposal. If Congress is not motivated by the president’s determination to end illegal immigration, human trafficking, and the flow of drugs and crime, then we are at a dangerous stalemate. It’s time for our elected lawmakers to come together and serve Americans like Elvin Hernandez, Debra Bissell, and the Armstrong family. If we fail them, we fail our country.” ###
Atlanta, GA -- Tea Party Patriots Action Honorary Chairman Jenny Beth Martin comments ahead of President Trump’s State of the Union Speech. “We look forward to President Trump’s State of the Union Address to Congress and to the American people Tuesday night. We are pleased that the President will address the crisis at our southern border. After three decades of unfulfilled promises, we are thankful that President Trump has made securing our southern border a priority for the sake of ensuring the safety and security of all Americans.” ###
Tea Party Patriots Action Responds to President Trump’s Announcement Ending the Partial Government Shutdown
Atlanta, GA – Tea Party Patriots Action Honorary Chairman Jenny Beth Martin responds to President Trump’s announcement ending the partial government shutdown. “The President has just put Congress on notice that if Congress cannot find a way to provide appropriate funding for border security — including funding for a wall (permanent, physical barriers — whatever you want to call it, as long as it is a permanent barrier) which Republicans and Democrats have supported in the past — he will invoke his powers under the National Emergencies Act to secure our border. It is time for Members of Congress to end the political games, get over their hatred of the President, and work with President Trump to provide the security our nation deserves.” ###
Atlanta, GA – Tea Party Patriots Action Honorary Chairman Jenny Beth Martin released the following statement today, urging the U.S. Senate to confirm all of President Trump’s judicial nominees. “President Trump is keeping his promise to nominate exceptionally qualified judges with a record of adhering to the Constitution and following the rule of law. But because Senate Democrats have engaged in an unprecedented campaign of obstruction, there are now more than 160 lower federal court vacancies – more than existed when President Trump first took office. Democrats must put aside their partisan, gridlock politics and join with their Republican colleagues to fill all current vacancies with bipartisan support.” ###
Atlanta, GA – Tea Party Patriots Action Honorary Chairman Jenny Beth Martin responds to President Trump’s Address on the humanitarian and national security crisis at the Southern Border from the Oval Office. ”Tonight, President Trump addressed the nation and assured the American people that he is determined to keep his promise to secure our southern border and keep our country safe. It is unfortunate that the nation is faced with a humanitarian and national security crisis of this magnitude -- 'a crisis of the heart and a crisis of the soul’ — but I have been to the border, and I can tell you, it IS a crisis. The Democrats’ response? Denial that there is a crisis at all, refusal to fund proper border security, and demands that the president ignore his responsibilities to secure the country and instead reopen the government. Rather than worry about innocent Americans who are victims of crime caused by illegal immigrants, they are worried about a small segment of the American population that happens to work for the federal government. They are prioritizing government workers’ paychecks over American citizens’ security. Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi must realize that our country is in danger and must not continue to hinder efforts to address the crisis and give law enforcement officials and agents the tools they need to end this crisis. It is now time for Americans to call on their Congressmen and Senators and demand they keep their promise to put Americans first and protect our borders.” ###
