Atlanta, GA – This week, the Senate is expected to vote on a War Powers resolution that would prohibit President Trump from taking further military action in Venezuela without explicit congressional authorization. In anticipation of that vote, Tea Party Patriots Action Honorary Chairman Jenny Beth Martin issued the following statement:

“Every senator should vote ‘no’ on the War Powers resolution. President Trump has wielded authority consistent with his Constitutional powers. Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro was under indictment on federal drug trafficking and weapons charges, and Operation Absolute Resolve was an extraction mission designed to capture him and move him to the United States, where he could face justice for his crimes. We should be celebrating Maduro’s capture — he was a narco-terrorist responsible for the deaths of untold numbers of Americans.

“President Trump took bold action consistent with his ‘America First’ foreign policy, especially as it pertains to narcotics and illegal immigration.

“The Senate should vote down the War Powers resolution and show its support for President Trump’s leadership, our brave men and women in uniform who planned and executed the mission, and the prospect of better days ahead for the long-suffering people of Venezuela.”
