Tea Party Patriots Action Urges Congress to Pass Reconciliation 2.0, Fund ICE & CBP
May 21, 2026
Atlanta, GA – This week, the Senate is expected to vote on a budget reconciliation bill that would fund Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) after Congressional Democrats refused to fund the agencies during the normal appropriations process. In response, Tea Party Patriots Action Chairman Jenny Beth Martin issued the following statement:
“Thanks to President Trump and Republicans in the House and Senate, America is once again safe.
“Congressional Democrats put America at risk by shutting down DHS for 76 days and then only reopening it on condition that funding for ICE and CBP be excluded. This put Congressional Republicans in the position of having to use the reconciliation process to fund ICE and CBP weeks later on a party-line vote, with Democrats completely abdicating their constitutional responsibilities.
“What the Democrats caused to happen is completely unprecedented. Congress has never funded an agency through the reconciliation process before; it should always be done through the regular appropriations process. Indeed, in this case, funding for ICE and CBP was going through the regular appropriations process before Democrats started catering to their base and playing politics.
“We at Tea Party Patriots Action urge Congress to put this nightmare behind us and fund ICE and CBP through the Reconciliation 2.0 bill.”
