Atlanta, GA – On Wednesday, the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the case challenging President Trump’s executive order eliminating “birthright citizenship.” In response, Tea Party Patriots Action (TPPA) Chairman Jenny Beth Martin issued the following statement:

“For the first time in the history of our republic, a sitting president attended oral arguments before the Supreme Court. That’s a measure of the importance President Trump attaches to this matter.

“As President Trump has argued, It should be clear to any fair-minded observer that when the Fourteenth Amendment was ratified in 1868, its intent was to benefit freed slaves and their children, not those of illegal aliens. This is a unique opportunity for the Supreme Court to settle this long-running debate once and for all and recognize the President’s inherent powers over immigration and national sovereignty.”
