Atlanta, GA – On Thursday, the Trump administration announced its first “pocket rescission,” to claw back taxpayer dollars that would have been spent unwisely. In response, Tea Party Patriots Action Honorary Chairman Jenny Beth Martin issued the following statement:

“We applaud President Trump and OMB Director Vought for showing bold leadership in using ‘pocket rescissions’ to save taxpayer dollars as part of their commitment to get America’s fiscal house in order. ‘Pocket rescissions’ are a creative method for the President to use his executive power to prioritize spending, which in cases like this one means eliminating spending that is no longer needed.

“Our federal budget is almost $7 trillion, and our annual budget deficit is close to $2 trillion. We simply cannot sustain that level of borrowing — or spending. The Trump administration is taking America’s fiscal crisis seriously. The Democrats, by crying foul and misinforming the public about the President’s powers, are once again trying to stand in the president’s way to spend taxpayer dollars unwisely — but they will not succeed.”
