FBI director rebuffs Hillary Clinton’s assertion the bureau is conducting mere ‘inquiry’
Former Senator Hillary Clinton for months has been making light of an FBI investigation into her use of a private email server to transmit confidential national secrets when she was secretary of state on President Obama’s watch. FBI Director James Comey, however, isn’t sugarcoating the scrutiny with which he and his team are scouring her emails and the circumstances surrounding her use of the homebrew server.
Hillary Clinton for months has downplayed the FBI investigation into her private email server and practices as a mere “security inquiry.”
But when asked Wednesday by Fox News about Clinton’s characterization of the bureau’s probe, FBI Director James Comey said he doesn’t know what “security inquiry” means — adding, “We’re conducting an investigation. … That’s what we do.”
The FBI director reiterated that he’s “not familiar with the term security inquiry” when told that is the phrase Clinton has used.
Government officials in lesser positions than Ms. Clinton at the time of her email scandal have been handed greater punishments for lesser crimes.
