Tea Party Group Calls on Senate to Keep McConnell’s Promise to Repeal Obamacare ‘Root and Branch’
Atlanta, GA – Tea Party Patriots President and co-founder Jenny Beth Martin released the following statement today, reacting to the House of Representatives’ vote to pass an amended version of the American Health Care Act.
“During the 2016 campaign, Republicans from President Trump to Speaker Paul Ryan to Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and the caucuses they lead in Congress made a promise that virtually all Republicans have been making since 2010: To repeal Obamacare and replace it with a system that restores health care freedom, improves quality of care and the doctor-patient relationship, and lowers costs for families. We applaud the House Freedom Caucus, President Trump and Vice President Pence for not giving up when House Leadership’s first proposal, which failed to repeal Obamacare’s costly and freedom-eroding regulations, faltered and for negotiating in good faith with their colleagues to improve that bill and pass it through the House. This is simply the first step in a long battle to repeal former President Obama’s failing government takeover of Obamacare. Now the Senate is responsible for advancing a bill that will lead to the fulfillment of Leader McConnell’s promise to repeal Obamacare ‘root and branch.’ We will be watching and will not hesitate to hold people accountable if the Senate fails to make progress toward the full repeal of Obamacare.”
