Today, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down President Trump’s executive order eliminating birthright citizenship. In response, Tea Party Patriots Action Chairman Jenny Beth Martin issued the following statement:

“Today, the U.S. Supreme Court got it wrong. The Supreme Court has made mistakes in the past, most famously in Dred Scott and Plessy v. Ferguson, both of which were later corrected.

“As President Trump has argued, it should be clear to any fair-minded observer that when the Fourteenth Amendment was ratified in 1868, its intent was to benefit freed slaves and their children, not those of illegal aliens.

“This long-running debate is not settled with today’s ruling. We will continue working, through Congress, to right this wrong.”
