Atlanta, GA – Tea Party Patriots Citizens Fund Chairman Jenny Beth Martin today released the following statement announcing the endorsement of Susan Collins to represent Maine in the United States Senate:

“Maine deserves a U.S. Senator who won’t back down when the stakes are high. Susan Collins has proven she has the backbone and independent spirit to fill that role.

“When the Internal Revenue Service illegally targeted Tea Party groups and individuals, Susan Collins was one of the first members of the Senate to speak out, saying the news of the targeting ‘contributed to the profound distrust that the American people have in government.’ She was right.

“When Brett Kavanaugh was nominated for a seat on the Supreme Court, she stood firm in her belief that the nominee’s legal credentials and judicial record mattered most. She refused to be cowed by pressures brought to bear on her and voted to confirm Kavanaugh. She has consistently backed nominees to the federal judiciary who hold to an originalist view of the Constitution.

“Her opponent, Troy Jackson, is an extreme liberal. He supports a government takeover of health care, combined with the elimination of private health insurance – so if you like your employer-provided plan, kiss it goodbye if he has his way. He supports abolition of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). He wants to raise taxes. He is so radical he has even declared that the Israeli government is, in his words, ‘committing genocide.’

“Perhaps most troublingly, earlier in this campaign, Jackson endorsed Graham Platner for the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate, despite the fact that troubling allegations about Platner had been on the record since last year.

“On behalf of Tea Party Patriots Citizens Fund, I am pleased to endorse Susan Collins for the U.S. Senate from Maine, and I urge every Maine voter to make a plan to vote for Susan Collins in the November 3 general election.”
