The cut off for leaving a comment decrying the latest power grab at the IRS is right around the corner! Please take a moment to click here and protest the proposed regulation that would authorize the IRS to collect the social security numbers of those nonprofit donors who give $250 or more annually. “We need to keep putting in as many comments as possible,” Tea Party Patriots President Jenny Beth Martin. “We just want as many comments there as possible. We want to prevent this regulation from going into effect.” So far, we have collected more than 8,500 signatures and the comment petition has been shared on Facebook nearly 12,000 times. ...

IRS rubs nonprofits the wrong way as agency proposes collecting donors’ social security numbers

President Obama’s weaponization of the IRS continues. Even in the wake of the backlash the IRS received for targeting conservatives for their political beliefs, the agency still hasn’t learned its lesson and is proposing a new rule that could require nonprofit organizations to hand over donors’ social security numbers to the government. Fox News has the details: Under the proposed rule, the IRS would create an optional filing for 501(c)(3) nonprofits. Those participating would, as part of their yearly report, turn over the Social Security numbers of any donors who give $250 or more to a charity in a given year. “I don’t know any ...

House Republicans move to impeach Obama’s IRS Commissioner

House Republicans Tuesday introduced a resolution to impeach Obama IRS Commissioner John Koskinen, accused of lying under oath to cover up IRS targeting of conservative groups and of not producing key evidence that was subpoenaed. Fox News has the details: House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, and 18 other committee members introduced the resolution to begin impeachment proceedings. In doing so, they followed through on a threat first made over the summer, when Republicans accused the IRS leader of making inaccurate statements to Congress regarding the Tea Party targeting scandal and its aftermath. "Commissioner Koskinen ...

DOJ Drops Investigation Into Former IRS Official Lois Lerner Even Though IRS Abuses Persist

Officials at the Department of Justice last week announced that they are dropping their investigation into former senior IRS official Lois Lerner, who many allege spearheaded the IRS' slow-rolling of conservative groups' nonprofit applications. The Hill has the details: Republicans are blasting the Justice Department for declining to bring charges against IRS official Lois Lerner, the central figure of the Tea Party targeting scandal ... The DOJ said in a letter to Congress on Friday that it was closing its investigation of Lerner and only found evidence of “mismanagement” and “poor judgment,” which it added “is not a crime.”...

Senate Report Finds IRS is Prone to Abuse – Tea Party Patriots Respond

Yesterday, the Senate Finance Committee released a report of their two-year investigation into the IRS's treatment of tax-exempt organizations, which found "gross mismanagement at the highest levels of the IRS and confirm[ed] an unacceptable truth: that the IRS is prone to abuse,” according to Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-UT). Jenny Beth Martin, the President and Co-Founder of Tea Party Patriots, which had its tax-exempt status held up by the IRS for years, issued the following statement: "The  Senate Finance Committee Report confirms what Tea Party Patriots already knew: The targeting did indeed happen, IRS employees obstructed justice, and the White ...

Senate to Hear From Victims of Tea Party-Targeting Scandal

Atlanta, Ga. – Today at 2 p.m. ET, Jenny Beth Martin, the President and Co-Founder of Tea Party Patriots, which had its tax-exempt status held up by the IRS for several years, will testify before the Senate Subcommittee on Oversight, Agency Action, Federal Rights, and Federal Courts, regarding the progress the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has made in reforms since the agency's targeting scandal first came to light. "We waited 3 years, 2 months, and 10 days, put in thousands of man-hours, and spent tens of thousands of dollars in legal and accounting fees to have our 501(c)(4) tax-exempt status approved by the IRS... and it was granted the day ...

Tea Party Patriots Incredulous Over President’s IRS Tea Party-Targeting Denial

Even Host, Jon Stewart, Found Obama's Remarks "Unbelievable" ATLANTA, GA – Last night, in his final interview with "Daily Show" host Jon Stewart, President Obama defended the IRS (jump to 7:15), saying the tea party-targeting scandal was actually Congress' fault for passing a "crummy law" and that the real problem is the agency doesn't have enough money due to budget cuts.  Stewart was incredulous, exclaiming that the President must really "only have a year left" and that it is "unbelievable." Tea Party Patriots (TPP), a national grassroots coalition which had its 501(c)4 tax-exempt application held up by the IRS for years, shares ...

The IRS cover-up is reaching epic levels

In case you didn’t think the mess at the IRS could get any worse, the Lois Lerner saga is continuing to prove otherwise. A government watchdog is now saying that the IRS erased computer evidence during the Congressional investigation into the IRS, Lerner, and the systemic targeting of tea party groups. Fox News reports [1]: J. Russell George, the Treasury inspector general for tax administration, testified to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee that IRS employees erased computer backup tapes shortly after officials discovered thousands of emails related to the tax agency's Tea Party scandal had been lost. As many as 24,000 ...

The IRS won’t turn over Lois Lerner’s emails. You’ll never believe why.

Remember last week when a federal judge started the countdown clock on the deadline for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to put up or shut up on Lois Lerner’s missing emails [1]? Judge Emmet Sullivan of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia made it very clear: either release Lerner’s lost-and-found emails by Friday (June 12) or have a good explanation ready. On Monday, the IRS had its excuse ready. And it’s a doozy. Reports Fox Business [2]: The Internal Revenue Service may have found 6,400 emails from Lois Lerner, who oversaw the tax agency’s Exempt Organizations Unit, but the government agency has no plans to share....

More of the lost Lois Lerner emails were found

So, about those “missing” IRS emails… Turns out it depends on what the meaning of “missing” is. According to news reports on Wednesday, a Treasury Department watchdog was able to recover 6,400 of Lois Lerner’s lost emails. To recap: Lerner was in charge of the IRS’ tax-exempt division when it targeted tea party groups for pure political reasons. She then pled the Fifth during a Congressional hearing, retired with dignity and a nice pension, and with the IRS backing her up, told lawmakers all her emails were lost during a computer crash. And not just lost – permanently lost. Turns out that wasn’t quite true. As reported in ...
