Statement by Tea Party Patriots Co-founder Jenny Beth Martin on federal court decision on IRS emails

Jenny Beth Martin, co-founder of Tea Party Patriots, issued the following statement in response to yesterday's federal court decision regarding the missing IRS emails: "We’re encouraged to learn that a federal judge is now demanding the truth from the IRS about the so-called “lost” emails.  Nobody expects the IRS to willingly tell the truth about the Obama administration's intimidation campaign against American citizens but Thursday’s court order is an important step in the right direction.  Our hope is that taxpayers will learn the truth about the abuse of power exercised by the IRS, and that those responsible will be held accountable....

News Release: Tea Party to Congress: Repeal 16th Amendment, Reform the IRS

Applauds Rep. Bridenstine for Introducing Bill to Reform Tax System ATLANTA, GA— Tea Party Patriots announced today their support for a bill introduced by Congressman Jim Bridenstine’s (R-OK) to repeal the 16th Amendment (Income Tax).  “The only way to reform the IRS in a meaningful and lasting manner is to repeal the underlying Constitutional amendment that allowed for the creation of 67,000 plus pages of regulations,” said Jenny Beth Martin, National Coordinator for the Tea Party Patriots. “When that many regulations exist, it is impossible for the average citizen or business owner to know whether they are compliant with the ...

Unpaid Taxes Worth Half U.S. Deficit

Earlier this year, Democrats successfully garnered $600 billion in tax increases over the next decade. Not satisfied with this redistribution of the American people’s money, they are now pushing for another $50 billion to replace a portion of sequestration cuts. America has a spending problem, not a tax revenue problem, so tax increases should be out of the question as Congress examines a possible budget deal. However, that does not mean the code should remain as it is. Loopholes and credits create unfair market distortions that reward special interests at the expense of the American people as a whole. Rather than raise taxes, however, two IRS ...

Political Punishment, IRS Style

In the fight over defunding Obamacare, the IRS scandal has taken a backseat in many news reports. USA TODAY, however, hasn’t forgotten about this abuse of government power: WASHINGTON — Newly uncovered IRS documents show the agency flagged political groups based on the content of their literature, raising concerns specifically about "anti-Obama rhetoric," inflammatory language and "emotional" statements made by non-profits seeking tax-exempt status. The internal 2011 documents, obtained by USA TODAY, list 162 groups by name, with comments by Internal Revenue Service lawyers in Washington raising issues about their political, lobbying and ...

Ways & Means Subcommittee Won’t Let IRS Get Away Scot-Free

In all the talk over Syria, the debt ceiling, Obamacare, and the Continuing Resolution, the IRS intimidation scandal continues to unfold. Fortunately, the House Ways & Means Committee has made digging up the facts a primary goal since the scandal erupted in May, and tomorrow a subcommittee will hold another hearing: Lois Lerner, the onetime head of the Internal Revenue Service’s Exempt Organizations division at the center of the political targeting controversy, has been subjected to renewed media scrutiny, ahead of another congressional hearing this week on the scandal. Republicans on the Ways and Means Committee on Thursday released a new set ...

IRS Going Rogue or Taking Direction from Democrats?

In May, Tea Party Patriots critiqued several prominent Democratic Senators for targeting conservative groups before the 2010 and 2012 elections, only to turn around and jump on the anti-IRS bandwagon after Tea Party harassment was made public. These and other politicians claim their public statements, letters, etc. against conservative groups have nothing to do with the IRS’ illegal behavior. Not content with one complete flip-flop, however, a number of Democrats have come full circle. Having pressured the IRS to harass conservative organizations before decrying the persecution, they now claim the IRS scandal is a non-issue. Now, a video of ...

Phony IRS Scandal Keeps Growing

This week, three updates to the IRS scandal show why the “it never happened” meme is losing its luster. First, Congressman Jim Jordan’s (R-OH) interview with Greta Van Susteren highlights how little information the IRS is releasing to Congress: The number of completely redacted/blacked out pages Rep. Jordan showed Van Susteren is atrocious. How can the American people trust this Administration when it says the scandal is “phony?” Lacking transparency, we the people can only trust what we see, and that is an IRS that is hiding information from the very citizens it has illegally investigated. Guy Benson has an even more damning ...

Tea Party leader: IRS scandal not “phony”

Last week, President Obama launched a series of economic speeches intended to draw attention to his alleged vision for the nation. In those speeches, he brushed off the series of scandals that have marred his Administration for the last year. While they weren’t named, one can easily theorize he meant the Benghazi cover-up, the IRS scandal, the NSA spying, and Fast & Furious. Three speeches were made last week by the President, and all three involved him calling any and all scandals “phony.” Consider: Wednesday’s speech: “But with this endless parade of distractions and political posturing and phony scandals, Washington has taken ...
