IRS persists in singling out, delaying tea-party groups’ tax-exempt-status applications

Authorities at the Internal Revenue Service after promising to speed up processing on long-in-limbo tax-exempt-status applications of conservative groups is reversing course and doubling down on their demands for additional documentation. The Washington Times has the scoop: More jarringly, the IRS then publicly released one of the sets of questions it sent to the Texas Patriots Tea Party — a move the group’s lawyer says puts secret taxpayer return information, supposed to be protected, out in the public. Tax experts say the IRS may be on safe legal ground, since the filing was made as part of a court case, and that’s one of the few narrow ...

A number of employees at the Internal Revenue Service will spend time behind bars for accessing personal taxpayer information used to defraud people to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars, a report released Wednesday reveals. Federal appeals court says IRS likely still targeting Americans for their political beliefs

Officials at the Internal Revenue Service are continuing to target politically conservative-leaning groups seeking tax-exempt status, a federal appeals court said in a recent ruling that overturned a lower-court decision that tossed out a lawsuit against the agency on the grounds IRS authorities said they’d stop certain targeting practices. The Daily Signal has the story: The IRS insisted “there is no reasonable expectation” that discrimination will reoccur, the ruling noted, because the tax agency has “suspended until further notice” tactics it used to target the applications of tea party and other conservative groups for nonprofit ...

Obama donor major investigator in IRS targeting scandal

Justice Department attorney and Obama campaign donor Barbara Bosserman spent more than 1,500 hours looking into the IRS officials who targeted Americans for their political beliefs, reveals documents obtained by conservative watchdog Judicial Watch via a Freedom of Information Request. LifeZette has the scoop: When Judicial Watch filed its Freedom of Information Act appeal in 2014, it sought to overturn a lower court’s ruling to keep the information sealed. When the Department of Justice failed to respond in a timely fashion to the request, Judicial Watch sued. In 2014, House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Darrell Issa ...
