IRS bulks up, audits more when Democrats are in control of Congress, White House

A study of the Internal Revenue Service from present day to 1978 reveals when Democrats control Congress and the White House, the agency targets more Americans. The Washington Examiner has the scoop: What's more, when Democrats run the Senate, as they did during the Obama administration's IRS targeting scandal, the agency is typically given more money to hire more auditors who conduct more audits. "Democratic control of the Senate is correlated with an increased IRS budget and workforce. The president's party has a statistically significant impact on the number of IRS enforcement personnel when both houses of Congress are controlled by ...

IRS backs off proposed regulation to collect charitable donors’ social security numbers

The Internal Revenue Service, after receiving tens of thousands of comments from concerned citizens, decided against implementing a proposed rule that would have authorized the agency to collect the social security numbers of donors who give $250 or more annually to a nonprofit charitable organization. The Hill has the inside story: “The Treasury Department and the IRS received a substantial number of public comments in response to the notice of proposed rulemaking,” the agency wrote Thursday morning in the Federal Register. “Many of these public comments questioned the need for donee reporting, and many comments expressed significant ...

Out-of-control IRS seeks new powers (Jenny Beth Martin’s Weekly Column in the Washington Times)

It’s a thought that should send a chill up every American’s spine: The Internal Revenue Service wants to increase its already-expansive powers. Fresh off the IRS targeting scandal – in which the agency systematically brought its enormous power to bear to target conservatives for years – the IRS now wants new authority to ask 501(c)(3) charitable organizations to collect the Social Security numbers of donors who contribute more than $250 in a given year. For good reason, Americans are alarmed that the IRS is even considering this new rule. Read more: http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2015/nov/30/jenny-beth-martin-out-control-irs-...

Jenny Beth Martin Thanks House Conservatives for Historic Leadership Change

Atlanta, GA – Tea Party Patriots CEO and co-founder Jenny Beth Martin released the following statement today as John Boehner stepped down from his position as Speaker of the House: “Tea Party Patriots and our network of grassroots activists across the country would like to sincerely thank House conservatives for standing up to enormous pressure from the Washington establishment and forcing this historic change in House leadership. Without their absolute commitment to principle and willingness to stick to their guns despite heavy public criticism, we would still be dealing with John Boehner as Speaker of the House. “We’d also like to ...

Jenny Beth Martin speaks at the Capitol Building.

This week has been a very busy one for Tea Party Patriots. Earlier this week Tea Party Patriots joined Senator Ted Cruz, Senator Mike Lee, Congressman Jim Jordan, Bill Flores, Senate Conservatives Fund, Heritage Action, and Club for Growth outside the Capitol building urging Congressional leadership to resist the temptation of reviving the Export-Import bank.  I appreciate these Members of Congress taking the lead in this fight. The lapse of the bank's charter earlier this year was a victory for our movement. It is critical we remain vigilant on this issue because leadership in Congress is working to reauthorize the bank. Out of $2.2 ...

Ted Cruz’s action to block State Department funding and nominations until the President provides written assurances he will block any such Security Council resolution until Congress has had a chance to review the agreement. “President Obama has ...

Longtime combatant Neal B. Freeman looks at the GOP, and conservatives’ place in it, from the early days of NR on.

Note: This column originally appeared in National Review on December 4, 2013   I understand that you’ve been involved in the GOP civil war for some time. Only 50 years or so. I came in late.   How did you first become involved? I headed Youth for Goldwater in New York. Wasn’t Goldwater’s principal opponent for the Republican nomination, Nelson Rockefeller, governor of New York at the time? I had grown up in New York and at some point began to fear that Rockefeller would be governor for life. Mine, as well as his.   Why didn’t you support Rockefeller? His big-government Republicanism was ’roided up. ...

The Problem For Folks Like Us

I heard it first at the barber shop. Then at the airport. And then from callers to a radio show. Folks like us seem to think we have a problem. They think that we have too many candidates, and that the candidates will spend too much money tearing one another down, and that the process may produce, after a burst of fratricidal campaign spots, a mortally damaged nominee. This concern is unlike us. Folks like us tend to encourage dissent and welcome debate; we are the permanent insurgency and we thrive on the hurly-burly of controversy. But now that we’re up against the glacial advance of Clinton Inc., these folks seem to be saying, maybe we should ...
