Tea Party Patriots: House GOP members fail to repeal Obamacare

Atlanta, GA – Tea Party Patriots President and co-founder Jenny Beth Martin released the following statement today, reacting to the failed attempt by House GOP members to repeal and replace Obamacare.

“The AHCA failed to garner the necessary votes from the House GOP for the simple reason that it failed to repeal the core elements of ObamaCare – the insurance company mandates (‘Guaranteed Issue,’ ‘Community Rating,’ and ‘Essential Health Benefits’) that are driving up the costs of health insurance even as they drive down the quality of care – and, as such, failed to live up to the promise to repeal ObamaCare ‘root and branch.’”

“Grassroots activists all over the country called their Representatives and made clear their opposition. Faced with the choice before them – back Speaker Ryan’s flawed, insufficient bill, or support their constituents – many Members made the decision to stand up for their constituents. We applaud them for their courage.

“Congressional leaders should begin the process again, and return with a bill that gives the American people what they voted for in November – real, full repeal of ObamaCare, repeal that will yield a health care plan that embraces free market principles so that prices go down, and quality of care goes up.”
