Underdogma: How America’s Enemies Use Our Love for the Underdog to Trash American Power (Hardcover) – Michael Prell “Analyzing and refuting the common assumptions of anti-Americanism is a critical contribution to the global political debate. Thank goodness for this effort.” —UN Ambassador John Bolton, author of Surrender is Not an Option David versus Goliath, the American Revolutionaries, “The Little Engine That Could,” Team USA’s “Miracle on Ice,” the Star Wars Rebel Alliance, Rocky Balboa, the Jamaican bobsled team and the meek inheriting the Earth. Everyone, it seems, loves an underdog. Why is that? We begin life ...

The fight against an unconstitutional power grab

Tom Cotton, the conservative Senator-elect from Arkansas, has been a strong voice in recent weeks against President Obama’s executive amnesty. At a time when many of our lawmakers cower behind the guise of moderate compromise, we wish more would stand up and defend the principles of real conservatism. Cotton, to his credit, has been front and center giving voice to those who oppose amnesty. On Friday, he called on Americans to jumpstart a phone-banking campaign to shut down the Capitol switch board. “In 2007, there were reports that the Capitol switch board  actually stopped working because so many people called, and asked their senators ...

IRS: A Culture of Absolute Power and Absolute Corruption

No other agency can invoke more sleepless nights, accounting anxiety and beads of sweat across the forehead than the IRS. Those three letters hold so much power, not only with the collection of taxes, but now the enforcement of health insurance. As comedian Jerry Seinfeld jokingly put it, “[They’re] like the mafia. They can take anything they want.” [1] Every joke has some truth to it. Giving a succinct and more serious characterization of the agency, syndicated columnist George Will recently said on Fox News that the IRS is, “the most intrusive and potentially punitive institution of the federal government, and it is a law enforcement ...

Dave Brat Powered to Victory Over Eric Cantor by Grassroots

Dave Brat’s victory over Eric Cantor June 10 demonstrates the strength of the grassroots activists who built the Tea Party and the power of his positions on the critical issues of the day. With the support of hard-working volunteers and others like Mark Levin, Laura Ingraham, Glenn Beck, Ann Coulter and others, Dave was able to overcome tremendous obstacles and dethrone the House Majority Leader. We congratulate him and his supporters for this historic win. Tea Party Patriots co-founder Jenny Beth Martin met with Dave in May, and other members of the Tea Party Patriots national staff also met with him. We had good discussions but our ...

Lerner just latest example of power run amok in Obama Administration

Yesterday, the House Ways and Means Committee voted to formally request that Eric Holder and the Department of Justice pursue criminal charges against former Internal Revenue Service official Lois Lerner. Today, the House Oversight Committee is voting on whether to hold Lerner in contempt of Congress for refusing to answer questions about her role in IRS targeting conservative groups. Both actions are attempts to hold Lerner accountable for her leadership in the IRS targeting scandal – something the Obama Administration seems completely uninterested in doing. But that seems to be a common theme in Obama’s White House. Indeed, holding people ...

Press Release: Tea Party Condemns President’s Abuse of Power

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 28, 2014 Tea Party Condemns President’s Attempt to Usurp Power from Congress Demands Congress Rein in Excess ATLANTA, GA— Today, Tea Party Patriots blasted President Barack Obama for using his fifth State of the Union address to suggest his plan to bypass Congress through the use of executive action if Congress stands in his way. “To hear talk of building on the ‘success’ of using the pen and phone in 2013 by acting unilaterally in 2014 if Congressional Republicans don’t fall into line is a mockery to our form of government,” said Jenny Beth Martin, Co-founder and President ...

Media Laments Big Business’ Diminishing Power in GOP

The image of big corporations controlling the Republican Party is par for the mainstream media course. It dominated headlines during the 2012 elections, when former Wall Street businessman Mitt Romney topping the GOP ticket. Now, however, media folks are starting to criticize the lack of influence by Big Business in the Republican Party, noting the rise of citizen influence is eroding corporate sway. From Noah Rothman of Mediaite: “Does all this talk coming out of the house maybe it wouldn’t be so bad to default, does that push moderates to link arms and pass that bill?” pressed MSNBC host Alex Wagner on Tuesday in a question to NBC News ...

Unwelcome in Washington: Reminders of Limits on Power

Ever since the Tea Party began impacting the national debate, activists have been accused of not respecting the way things work in Washington. At town hall meetings in August 2009, activists were told they were over-the-top in holding elected officials responsible. (Unlike, say, moderate-toned Occupy activists who illegally stayed on private property and engaged in violence with police.) In 2010, it was accusations that The Tea Party didn’t understand establishment moderates in the GOP were actually fiscal conservatives, and in 2011 attempts to prevent massive overspending brought alarmist claims of “brinksmanship.” All of these accusations ...

Why isn’t Washington’s second-most powerful Republican stopping amnesty?

According to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), he is going to bring the immigration “reform” bill to the Senate floor next week. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) isn’t planning on stopping him: The Senate will begin considering the landmark immigration reform bill next week, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Tuesday morning. “Even if we we’ve not completed action on the farm bill or the student loans proposals, we’re going to bring immigration to the floor next week. Immigration is broken, it needs to be fixed,” Reid said in his opening remarks on Tuesday. Reid said it’s his understanding that Minority ...
