I wrote you several months ago regarding the CAFR (Comprehensive Annual Financial Report) situation. I have not heard back from you on that issue. Since my initial message, I’ve become involved with the Greenville Tea Party group and are working with them to organize a local ”Citizen’s Oversight Committee” which will be tasked with investigating and monitoring the Greenville County School Board and County Council.

I would very much like to have dialogue with you on this subject for the express purpose organizaing similar govt financial oversight and investigative efforts into EVERY county in South Carolina. This is simply a matter of following the money in order to take back control of our local governments. The Greenville Tea Party has been VERY receptive to this concept and we are beginning to make headway in understanding the financial operations of the County Council and School District.

Joe, I must point out to you that this is a FOUNDATIONAL issue and that financial oversight is something that EVERY county should have been doing all along. Unfortunately, we have failed and are now reaping the consequences. Quite simply, if we cannot affect our LOCAL govt and have no clue what they are doing with our tax dollars in our own back yards, then why do we think we’ll be successful in Columbia or Washington?
