A Budget Tells The Story
By Larry Killion, TPP Citizen Journalist.Patty Murray (D. WA.) spoke a truism recently. How embarrassing it must be for those in Washington D. C. to hear one of their own utter the words spoken by the big tax and spend Senator. She said, “A budget tells the story of the kind of nation we are, and the kind of nation we want to be. It is a statement of our values, our priorities, and our vision.”
Yes, the budget tells the story. Let’s see, when was the last time we passed a budget? When did we last have a passed budget, not a balanced budget, a passed budget? You may have to google that. The Senate, which is controlled by Patty’s party, has not passed a budget since 2009. The federal government, meanwhile, continued to spend money, doling out trillions of dollars in the three years since a federal budget was last passed. To behave this way is to admit that you do not intend to get your spending in order.
Patty said, “I call on Speaker Boehner to not play political or procedural games…If Republicans continue their increasingly desperate games to protect millionaires and billionaires from paying a penny more in taxes, then families will understand very clearly who prevented the middle class tax cut bill that passed the Senate from being signed into law.” She is still playing the same old song on her one string banjo – All our trouble is because of the GOP. According to Murray, Republicans do not care about helping the “Middle-Class” and are only concerned about padding the pockets of the wealthy.
According to an online article about lies, there is a strange fact about telling false stories of which you may not be aware. The quote from Adolph Hitler, ”Tell a lie often enough, loud enough, and long enough, and people will believe you.” applies to the liar as well as to the intended target. There is a part of the human psyche that tends to accept that which is repeatedly put into the mind. As a result, the peddler of lies often reaches a point where he/she believes his/her lies are actually the truth. Very frequently, loving well-meaning people are caught up in these false stories and perpetuate them.
It is no surprise that the House approved the Republican bill to extend Bush-era tax rates for all Americans after voting down the Democrat plan to keep the rates for some but raise taxes on others. Maria Cantwell, (D. WA.) took a partisan stand with Patty on S.3412 to raise taxes on the top earners in America.
Peggy Hutt, Washington State Tea Party Patriot Coordinator, said, “So … she is telling us that since the Democrats have NOT passed a budget in years it tells us the story of the kind of …nation SHE wants … NO values, NO priorities and NO vision! The old saying was, “Where’s the beef?” What I would ask Ms. Patty is, “Where’s the Budget?” The lack of a budget tells us what kind of politician she is! She is one that we don’t have a budget for!”
