The First Amendment to the United States Constitution provides for the separation of church and state: Congress can ”make no law respecting the establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” This amendment ensures that no particular religion can be sanctioned by the U.S. government or the laws it creates, and that religions may operate freely without government interference. While Sharia law is currently being used in multiple countries across the world, it has no authority within the United States of America.
