Is there a Tea Party candidate running against Senator Bacchus and if not WHY???

    • Mike Power

      Hi Joel,

There were several candidates who ran against Alabama Congressman Spenser Bachus in the GOP primary election earlier this year. With all the adverse publicity the Congressman received regarding insider trading, it would seem he would have been very vulnerable. But the Congressman prevailed in the Primary. He had a massive war chest to spend on media advertising and his message was it was the ”Liberals” who were attacking him because he is such a strong conservative. (That is a bunch of BS). Alabama State Senator Scott Beason was the strongest challenger and Blount County Probate Judge David Standridge ran along with AL Mickel who has been active in Tea Party activities also ran. The Congressman will be running against Democrat challenger Penny H. Bailey in November.

Senator Beason had some of his own baggage from a comment he made while being recorded during the gambling sting operation. Al didn’t have nearly enough funds to compete against Bachus’ war chest. Bachus won with more than 50% of the vote and avoided a run-off.

With that said. Tea Parties in Congressional District 6 will have to start immediately after the Nov. election to recruit a candidate and develop a campaign strategy to be effective in a challenge against the power of an incumbent.

Senator Max Baucus of Montana will not be up for re-election until 2014.

      Thanks for the great question.

      Mike
