Illegal Immigration / Amnesty is yet another “Obamacare” in the offing. Do Conservatives / Republicans in Congress have a strategy to ”capture the issue” and do more than just “damage control”?
The main thing bantered about since the election, is that the Republicans better be nice (aka ”bend over”) on Illegal Immigration / Amnesty, else they will permanently loose the Hispanic vote. All “bending over” will do is make even millions more of Democratic voters with an entitlement agenda.
If there is no strategy on offense, consider the following:
Strategically tie “fair minded” immigration reform to the selfish interests of the registered Democratic voters and Illegals (who are already here), so that they will realize how Democrat authored version of Illegal Immigration / Amnesty will negatively impact them. Democrats appeal to people’s greed in terms of what they will get; Republicans should nurture people’s realistic concerns about what they could lose — which essentially is about their greed coming from the direction of fear of loss rather than willingness to let the government play Santa Claus.
Erstwhile Democratic voters need to realize that unfettered Illegal Immigration / Amnesty which Democrats are destined to propose will
(1) hurt efforts to reduce unemployment and their own ability to find a (better paying) job;
(2) cause “rationing” / reduction of government entitlement benefits that might otherwise go to them personally; and
(3) increase the deficit, debt, and rate of inflation in ways that will negatively affect them, their children, grandchildren, ad infinitum.A way for Republicans to ”capture the issue” on Illegal Immigration / Amnesty, is to propose legislation that will regulate immigration policy by a formula tied to unemployment and fiscal / economic issues in the U.S. Hence, the Republicans are champions protecting, with “fair” Immigration formulas, the “little guy’s” ability (1) to find a job; (2) to get the government support they may need (after all what they can bleed the “evil rich” via taxes can only go so far); and (3) their family’s future against the ravages of national debt, deficits, ,inflation, and government collapse.
The “fair” and “right” formulas for determining the annual number of (a) immigrants allowed legally into the US or (b) illegals given citizenship via amnesty should be derived from statistical forecasts and be limited or increased based on (1) years of unemployment % statistics; (2) financial ratios such as deficit % of GDP, debt % of GDP; and rate of inflation. The Republicans can be the ”good guys” by being seen as (1) protecting American jobs FOR AMERICANS (or at least American residents); (2) protecting government entitlement benefits for “real Americans” not giving benefits to “newbies” who haven’t paid their dues to America; and (3) protecting the “little guys” and their descendants against national financial disaster caused by immigration policy without regard for fiscal sanity. America would probably financially and socially collapse if we opened our borders without restriction as Democrats flirt with in their proposals.
My mom used to say, “nothing good happens fast” and countless military veterans have demonstrated that “(American) Freedom isn’t free” through those veterans sacrifice of the price of life or limb. Whether becoming an American is arguably or undoubtedly more valuable than the value of being a citizen of any other country in the world; becoming an American is very valuable and it is fair to ask a price for something so valuable.
For years “the price” of becoming an American has been the price of coming to America legally, not illegally. Becoming an American is not the right of every citizen in the world; therefore Republicans should sponsor determining and paying a “fair” price (kinda like the “evil rich” should pay their “fair share”). “Citizenship by Amnesty” with no price is trying to trump the traditional law of the land “path to citizenship”. Evidently not many Illegal Aliens or the Democratic get-out-the-vote machine want to extract any price at all, but rather they would have us just give away citizenship and attendant benefits for no price and few responsibilities.
Republicans should insist on some form of price, and one such price could be a postponing of the right to vote even though Amnesty would grant other rights of citizenship. A possible way to determine the length of the period before an individual would be allowed the right to vote, would be to compare a fixed number of years (10 or 15) to realistically how long it would take a person to get citizenship the old-fashioned, legal way and choose either the greater or the lesser along with the requirement that they have not been on any government entitlement program for a specified number of years. The reality is that Illegals are getting most or all of the fiscal, healthcare, and educational benefits of citizenship ALREADY!! We don’t need to give the Democrats the benefit of additional voters that will vote to take more money from the “evil rich” and redistribute those stolen taxes in the form of entitlements.
“Own the issue… control the issue; or the Democrats certainly will!”
