CDC confirms White House caught in sequester lie on child vaccinations
Congressman Andy Harris, M.D., R-Md., confronted Dr. Tom Frieden, Director of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), about misleading statements made by the White House.
The confrontation occurred during an oversight hearing for the Committee on Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies.
At issue was Section 317 Program funding, which provides for the immunization of school-age children, and whether sequester cuts will impact this program and if so, by how much.
Harris indicated that Congress received a memo from the White House stating that “In Maryland, about 2,050 fewer children will receive vaccines due to reduced funding for vaccinations at about $140,000.”
After a lot of back-and-forth, the CDC director admitted that even with the sequester cuts, he believed that “we could have maintained the present level of vaccinations.”
With all the tooth-pulling going on in Congress these days, Republican lawmakers would have done well to go to dentistry school.
I met Andy harris befor he was elected and talked with him awhile about illegal immigration. He was also the head speaker at the townhall on gun rights in Ocean City. There are some bright lights in maryland and Andy harris is genuine. Mike McDermott and Dave Otto are great state legislators too. These are our constitutionalists
