Stocks jump to near-record highs on heels of Trump victory

Stock prices jumped Wednesday following President-elect Donald Trump’s election victory and are holding steady after dropping on Election Day amid uncertainty. USA Today has the story: Traders also appear to be evaluating the potential economic benefits from Trump's plans to cut taxes and spend money on infrastructure projects that would put Americans to work, Martin Gilbert, CEO of Aberdeen Asset Management, said via email. "The increased prospect of tax cuts and a generally pro-growth set of policies from Trump, aided by the Republican clean sweep of Congress, has seen some of the initial (kneejerk) reaction (to sell stocks) to reverse," ...

Judicial Crisis Network Chief Counsel Carrie Severino today expressed her gratitude for those senators who refused to consider President Obama’s liberal Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland in the hopes of confirming a nominee more suited to fill Justice Antonin’s Scalia’s vacant seat on the bench. The Washington Examiner has the story: The power to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court was a major factor in 21 percent of voters' decisions on Election Day, and a majority of those voters, 57 percent to 40 percent, pulled the lever for Trump, according to an ABC News exit poll. Carrie Severino, the chief counsel and policy director for the ...

Recent analysis from homeland-security expert Mark Sauter shows U.S. vetting of immigrants seeking citizenship status isn’t as thorough as it should be when it comes to filtering those with ties to top terror groups. The Washington Examiner has the story: While State Department and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service branch of the Department of Homeland Security do ask if immigrants have been involved in terrorism, the most well-known of over a dozen terrorist groups aren't listed in applications, according to the analysis from homeland security expert Mark A. Sauter… Sauter, the author of Homeland Security, a McGraw-Hill textbook ...

Fallen Baton Rouge police officer Montrell Jackson has this message for his city

The shooters – in Dallas and now the three police officers murdered Sunday in Baton Rouge – targeting our law-enforcement officers speaks to an apparent divide in our nation. But one man endeavored to bridge that apparent divide during his time with the Baton Rouge Police Department. “These are trying times. Please don’t let hate infect your heart. This city MUST and WILL get better. I’m working in these streets so any protesters, officers, friends, family, or whoever, if you see me and need a hug or want to say a prayer. I got you,” wrote fallen Baton Rouge Police Officer Montrell Jackson in a July 8 Facebook post. Officer Jackson, ...

House passes bill preserving free speech thanks to patriots like you!

The House this week passed legislation, introduced by Rep. Peter Roskam (R-Ill.), titled the “Preventing IRS Abuse and Protecting Free Speech Act,” that – if enacted – will rein in the out-of-control bureaucrats at the IRS who have used their power to target Americans whose ideologies differ from those held by the Obama administration. “In an era where President Obama’s IRS has been unleashed to target Americans for their political beliefs, passing this bill into law would be a huge win for the First Amendment. It would protect the identities of donors to charitable organizations from the IRS, eliminating one way the IRS could target ...

Tea Party Patriots thanks House Oversight Chairman Jason Chaffetz for his efforts to impeach Obama’s IRS commissioner

It has been three years since the IRS admitted to targeting Americans for their political beliefs – singling them out for additional scrutiny, extra paperwork and even audits. This egregious abuse of power by the IRS went on for years and agency officials to this day are still covering up the full extent of their targeting scandal. House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) has been at the forefront of the congressional investigation into agency misconduct and has been tireless in his efforts to uncover the truth and hold the IRS and its high-level officials accountable. On Wednesday, Chairman Chaffetz again called for the ...

Treasury: March 2016 marks biggest March deficit in four years

The federal budget deficit spiked in March – driving the nation closer to economic disaster. ABC News has the story: The Treasury Department says the deficit for March totaled $108.0 billion. That marks the biggest March deficit in four years and was more than double the imbalance in March 2015. The large jump from a year ago reflected calendar shifts, which had made the 2015 deficit look smaller because $36 billion in benefit payments were shifted into February. Through the first six months of this budget year that began on Oct. 1, the deficit totals $461.0 billion. That represents an increase of 4.9 percent from the same period a year ...
