Speaker of the House: President Obama’s budget ‘progressive manual for growing the federal government’

President Obama Tuesday sent his final budget to members of Congress, some of whom used choice words to describe the proposal. Fox News has the details: It didn’t take Republicans long to respond to President Obama’s record $4.1 trillion budget proposal – labeling it “a progressive manual for growing the federal government at the expense of hardworking Americans," as House Speaker Paul Ryan put it. The fiscal 2017 budget plan, Obama’s eighth and final spending blueprint, is being met with a dead-on-arrival mentality on Capitol Hill after it was released late Tuesday morning. As the president proposes a raft of new taxes, though, ...

Republican senator calling on Speaker Ryan to take up tax reform in 2016

Sen. Charles “Chuck” Grassley (R-Iowa), a member and former chair of the Senate finance committee, is lobbying for a simpler, flatter tax code and hopes reform will come as early as this year with help from now-Speaker of the House Paul Ryan. Iowa Public Radio has more info: "If we were going to have a simple reform, we would have one tax rate, with an exemption for low and middle income people," he says. One figure for that cut-off, which he says is often used, is $36,000, after which workers would be subject to a flat tax. Grassley says although it would lower the tax rate for many people, ultimately the government would collect more ...

Jenny Beth Martin: Bold conservative leadership needs to be at the top of the agenda, Mr. Speaker

Tea Party Patriots President and Co-Founder Jenny Beth Martin in her latest column for The Washington Times urges Speaker of the House Paul Ryan to pursue a bold, conservative agenda that includes repealing Obamacare, pushing for tax reform and reining in congressional spending. Here is her blueprint for Congress: First up, the two issues that fall short of the 77 percent threshold (but each of which, nevertheless, garners 60 percent support among all likely voters, and far greater support among Republicans and Independents): Repeal of the Affordable Care Act, and across-the-board tax reform that creates a system that’s simpler, fairer and ...

WATCH: Choose Wisely – The Next Speaker of the House

The establishment in Washington, the political talking heads, and even John Boehner are doing all they can to coronate Congressman Paul Ryan as the next Speaker. This should be the first sign of hesitation for any conservative. After Boehner was rejected by his conference, he tried to hand-pick Kevin McCarthy who was rejected in similar fashion. Congressman Ryan’s record is very aligned to the current leadership which suggests that he wouldn’t be much different than just a continuation of the Boehner House structure. The only candidate or potential candidate for Speaker who has laid out a principled plan and has actually impleme...
