Tea Party Patriots Citizens Fund Endorses Doug Collins for U.S. Senate, Urges Governor Kemp to Appoint Collins to Fill Vacancy

Atlanta, G.A. – Tea Party Patriots Citizens Fund Chairman Jenny Beth Martin – acting on behalf of the three million members and supporters of the nation’s largest national Tea Party group – today endorsed U.S. Rep. Doug Collins to fill the seat of the retiring U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, urged Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp to appoint Collins, and issued the following statement:

“As Governor Kemp finalizes his thoughts on whom he should select to replace Sen. Isakson, we have two words for him: Doug Collins.

“Doug Collins serves as the Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee. In that capacity, he is the top Republican on the committee that will consider articles of impeachment against President Trump. From his position on the Judiciary Committee, he has fought to safeguard Second Amendment rights and uplift our nation’s law enforcement officers. Congressman Collins has shown he is a strong defender of the President, who has endorsed him for this promotion. He would be a welcome addition to the United States Senate, and we urge Gov. Kemp to appoint him to fill the vacancy created by Sen. Isakson’s early retirement.

“We understand from news reports that Gov. Kemp is also considering another finalist for the position – Kelly Loeffler. Ms. Loeffler – oddly, for a GOP aspirant – is known for her rather liberal positions. As a wealthy executive, she gave hundreds of thousands of dollars to a pro-Mitt Romney Super PAC in 2012, but gave nothing to Donald Trump in 2016. Worse, she contributed to left-wing Democrat Senators like Tom Harkin and Chris Dodd! In addition, she is the co-owner of Atlanta’s WNBA franchise, the Atlanta Dream – a team that, under her leadership, recently added far left-wing Stacey Abrams to its board of directors, and which worked against President Trump’s plan to prohibit taxpayer dollars used by Planned Parenthood from being used to make abortion referrals. Appointing Ms. Loeffler to the U.S. Senate wouldn’t just be promoting a liberal to replace a conservative, it would make a mockery of those who cast votes for Sen. Isakson, Gov. Kemp, and President Trump.

“In this case, Doug Collins is the right man for the job. That’s what we heard when we polled our supporters in Georgia, who responded rapidly and overwhelmingly that in a choice between Doug Collins and Kelly Loeffler, they would far prefer Collins.

“Gov. Kemp has an easy choice to make here. We urge him to do the right thing, and appoint Congressman Collins.”
