Senate Report Finds IRS is Prone to Abuse – Tea Party Patriots Respond
Yesterday, the Senate Finance Committee released a report of their two-year investigation into the IRS’s treatment of tax-exempt organizations, which found “gross mismanagement at the highest levels of the IRS and confirm[ed] an unacceptable truth: that the IRS is prone to abuse,” according to Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-UT).
Jenny Beth Martin, the President and Co-Founder of Tea Party Patriots, which had its tax-exempt status held up by the IRS for years, issued the following statement:
“The Senate Finance Committee Report confirms what Tea Party Patriots already knew: The targeting did indeed happen, IRS employees obstructed justice, and the White House and Justice Department refuse to cooperate with this investigation or hold anyone accountable.
“It makes one wonder what the White House and the Justice Department have to hide, since they are unwilling to cooperate fully with the Committee.
“This report also confirms what we know to be true about our movement: We were making a difference. The Washington Ruling Elite became fearful when people started watching and questioning what they were doing, so the IRS tried to shut us down. We are living proof that when a FEW good people are willing to speak truth to power, we can change things. The IRS, this administration, and anyone else in Washington can throw what they will at us, but we are not going away. We will not be deterred.”
