Washington Pulls Doublespeak over IRS Overreach
Establishment Tries to Divert Attention away from Entrenched Government Agencies
Today, Tea Party Patriots (TPP), the nation’s largest tea party organization and one of the groups targeted by the IRS, criticized the attempt by the establishment and entrenched powers in Washington, D.C. to divert attention away from power-hungry government agencies, including the IRS, by sounding a false alarm against “overreach” by those investigating the government abuse.
“Now that the IRS and other government agencies are under the spotlight, Washington is scrambling to protect their own entrenched interests, but Americans won’t be fooled,” said Jenny Beth Martin, Co-Founder and National Coordinator of Tea Party Patriots. “It was the federal government—not the concerned citizens of this country—that overreached when it targeted groups across the country like Tea Party Patriots to silence their free speech and chill their activities. It is telling that Washington elites say that the search for truth is an overreach.
“In their depositions, workers in the embattled Cincinnati IRS office state clearly they were taking orders from above, from those in Washington. This was no mere mishandling by ‘low-level employees.’ Powerful officials in Washington at the highest levels had knowledge of this gross abuse of power, and we will not stop until all of them are found out and held accountable.
“Ultimately we must overhaul or replace this and all broken and corrupt agencies in Washington. Putting the spotlight on this abuse of power is the duty of lawmakers on behalf of the American people to get to the bottom of this.
“As Washington circles the wagons around its entrenched powers and government agencies, the American people are on the hunt for the truth.”
