ATLANTA, Ga – Tea Party Patriots CEO and co-founder Jenny Beth Martin released the following statement today after the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee voted to censure IRS Commissioner John Koskinen.
“The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee took a step in the right direction today by voting to censure IRS Commissioner John Koskinen for obstructing a federal investigation into the IRS targeting of conservative groups, including Tea Party Patriots. While censuring federal administrative officials is rare, this is a necessary step before the House Judiciary Committee holds a hearing next week over a resolution to impeach the corrupt commissioner. The vote today is a reminder that everyone must adhere to the rule of law, including — and especially — the commissioner of the IRS. In a nation built on freedom of speech and belief, it is unacceptable for government officials to target their citizens based on their political beliefs. Again, I want to thank the House Oversight Committee for being a voice for the American people and voting to censure Commissioner Koskinen for his role in the obstruction of personal beliefs and freedoms.”
