“Shutdown:” Media’s Fear Mongering Word of the Day

The false narrative of a government shutdown rampages through the mainstream media, trying to scare regular Americans into abandoning their stance of fiscal responsibility.

First, it is claimed the Tea Party is extreme for wanting to defund, delay, or otherwise prevent Obamacare from being implemented. “Congress passed the law, the Supreme Court upheld it, and you lost the election” is the cry. However, this ignores President Obama’s unilateral exemptions and rogue delays, which violated his own health care law and the Constitution. If expecting all branches of government to follow the law is considered extremism, what would the media call dictator-esque policy making?

Claims of Tea Party extremism further collapse when multiple polls show a majority of Americans continue to oppose the Obamacare. An overwhelming majority believe that Congress should not be exempted from the law they passed, making the only supporters of current implementation Beltway insiders and liberally-biased media.

The House has compromised in three funding bills sent to the Senate. Almost all Republicans want Obamacare repealed, but they settled for defunding. After the Senate sent an Obamacare-enabling, exemption-laden CR back to the House, GOP leadership responded with a one-year delay of the law, plus repeal of the medical device tax. These are compromises, yet the Senate refuses to budge from its position of “total funding for Obamacare,” in spite of the President’s illegal delays and exemptions.

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) hit the Sunday talk shows yesterday standing up for the rule of law and sending blame for the government shutdown exactly where it belongs: on President Obama and Senator Harry Reid (D-NV). The Tea Party and our allies have compromised in three bills that have passed the House, yet the Senate hasn’t offered one concession. Furthermore, both Reid and Obama are misleading the public on what a “shutdown” really is and hiding how unconstitutional the President’s dictatorial delays and exemptions are.

Democrats and the mainstream media are counting on you staying silent. They need to keep this this false narrative at a fever pitch in order to force Republicans to buckle under pressure. We must spread the word to our friends, family, and all possible media sources, including Twitter and Facebook. Conservatives win when the truth dominates the debate over the Continuing Resolution and Obamacare.
