How Much Does Speaker Boehner Want to Repeal Obamacare?

Tea Party activists across the country have long questioned Speaker Boehner’s dedication to repealing Obamacare. He voted to end the government “shutdown,” for example, and other than during the “shutdown” has refused to draw a line in the sand since he became Speaker almost three years ago.

Despite voting to fully reopen the government, CNS News reports the Speaker and his leadership team are back to tough talk:

At a Capitol Hill press conference on Tuesday, asked Speaker Boehner, “Is the Republicans’ long-term plan to repeal Obamacare?”

Boehner said, “We want to repeal Obamacare and replace it with patient-centered healthcare.”

…. “It’s time to delay this,” Boehner said. “It’s time to fix this, before it gets any worse.”

In their 15 minutes of prepared remarks, the GOP leaders said they plan to “delay” Obamacare six times. The only time the word “repeal” was used was in response to’s question.

Does the Speaker want to repeal Obamacare? If the Senate had 60 Republicans and a Republican in the White House, would he repeal it? Probably. However, overturning an unpopular, bad law when the cards are all going your way is easy. The real sign of dedication to a goal is what you do when times are tough.

On National Review Online, David French praised the Tea Party for showing what real political courage looks like when your back is against the wall:

Imagine being a middle-aged man or woman, staring at a cancellation notice, and desperately trying to sign up for new insurance through a website that doesn’t work. How would you feel?

What’s the Republican response to that? Remember this feeling, vote for us for the next two cycles, and we’ll make it better by 2017? I know the Tea Party’s answer. They laid their political futures on the line to stop a plan that is hurting millions of Americans, and they will keep doing so at every opportunity until this monstrosity is repealed.

Does Speaker Boehner want to repeal Obamacare? He says he does, and has shown it a couple of times. But actions speak louder than words and Boehner’s actions look like a politician that’s fine with Obamacare.
