Irony Alert: The Budget Blame Game has Already Started

Over the last several weeks, many Republicans and most Democrats have said the media will blame the GOP for any government shutdown that takes place over the funding of Obamacare. Never mind that all fiscal conservatives want to keep the government running, with the exception of Obamacare – and therein lies a distinct note of irony for Republicans worried about the blame game: the media is already scapegoating Republicans, more than a month in advance of when the 2013 fiscal year ends.

Consider just a few examples in mainstream media publications:

They’d never say it publicly. But catch many Democrats in an honest moment and they would admit that a Republican-led government shut down this fall might be the best thing — perhaps the only thing — that could revive their fading hopes of capturing the House next year.

Roll Call’s headline: “GOP’s Obamacare Shutdown Caucus?”

US News and World Report:

In a conference call with members of the GOP caucus Thursday, House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, attempted to talk some members off the government shutdown ledge.

“Republicans-led government shut down.” “Shutdown Caucus.” “…[O]ff the government shutdown ledge.”

Yeah, establishment – you’re right. The media’s going to turn against you after you take a stand against Obamacare. ‘Cause it’s just so neutral right now.

It’s long past time for those who claim the mantle of “fiscal conservative” to stand up for the Constitution, free markets, and fiscal responsibility. Putting pressure to keep the government open where it belongs – on the President – is one great way to show the American people Republicans are again the party of good government and are willing to fight for We the People. The media’s constant bias be damned.
