Help us Save our Speech!

Senate Democrats, led by Majority Leader Harry Reid and New York Senator Chuck Schumer, are chomping at the bit to crack down on free speech and re-write the First Amendment.  That’s right. One of our most cherished and sacred rights is under assault by Washington elites, who ironically enough, took an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution.

If there was ever a time to get involved, now is it. We need your help to defend the First Amendment!

Last week, Sen. Ted Cruz warned[1] of the coming onslaught against the First Amendment:

“I am telling you — I am not making this up. Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has announced the Senate Democrats are scheduling a vote on a constitutional amendment to give Congress the authority to regulate political speech because elected officials have decided they don’t like it when the citizenry has the temerity to criticize what they’ve done.”

Sen. Cruz is one of the few politicians left courageous enough to tell it like it is. Democrats want to silence those of us who have the audacity to criticize and question their policies. Should they succeed, the effects would be chilling. Law-abiding citizens would effectively be silenced just for trying to voice a political opinion.

For centuries, the Bill of Rights, and especially the First Amendment, has set the United States apart from the rest of the world. In many countries, people are imprisoned, tortured, or fined for practicing free speech. In some extreme cases, speaking out against those in power is tantamount to a death sentence. In America, we believe that freedom of speech is not only vital, but absolutely necessary for all to have equality under the law and for democracy to flourish. Where this is freedom of speech, there is prosperity. If history has taught us anything, it’s that when government officials try to restrict speech, turmoil follows.

On Tuesday, June 3rd, Tea Party Patriots is calling on all our supporters to rally to Save our Speech. At noon local time, we need supporters to rally at their local Senator’s office to show just how much we value our First Amendment rights. At our website, you can find your local office, and download a tool kit that will provide everything you need to participate. If you can’t join in a rally, then call the senators on the Judiciary Committee and tell them to vote against Schumer’s proposal. Every little bit helps!
