EPIC Fail: 95% of Illegal Immigrants Coming for “Free Pass”

“Obama will take care of us” is the phrase Chris Cabrera, vice president in the National Border Patrol Council Local 3307, has heard quite often from both children and adults crossing the border illegally.

In his interview with World Net Daily, he explained how the focus was: “Where is my permiso? Where is my permission to go north, so I can get my medical care and my schooling and all that? President Obama is going to take care of us and make sure we’re all OK.” The border veteran commented how it seems like they are “coming prepared to game the U.S. immigration system.” [1]

Cabrera’s comments reveal the motivation behind those leaving their native land does not necessarily line up with the picture pro-amnesty advocates are painting. According to them, children are fleeing impoverished countries that are wrought with drugs, violence, cartels and other types of atrocities. Yet, the El Paso Intelligence Center (EPIC) intel report from July 7, 2014 shows there has been “‘a decline in per capita homicide rates’ in Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador since fiscal year 2011.” [2] If this is the case, there should be a drop in those seeking refuge, not tens of thousand more. So, why the massive influx? It goes back to what Chris Cabrera shared

The law-enforcement intelligence report by EPIC exposes the gapping holes in the Left’s narrative to classify these children as refugees and granted them some type of asylum or amnesty.

“In late May, the U.S. Border Patrol interviewed unaccompanied children (UAC) and migrant families apprehended in the Rio Grande Valley. Of the 230 total migrants interviewed, 219 cited the primary reason for migrating to the United States was the perception of U.S. immigration laws granting free passes or permisos to UAC and adult female OTMs traveling with minors. Migrants indicated that knowledge of permisos was widespread across Central America due to word of mouth, local, and international media messaging—prompting many to depart for the United States within 30 days of becoming aware of these perceived benefits, according to the same reporting.

A majority of migrants interviewed also noted that they had encountered family units, consisting of a mother and child under the age of 18 during their journey to the United States and that the families had indicated they planned to surrender to U.S. authorities because they were informed that they would likely be released.” [3]

For perspective, ninety-five percent of illegal immigrants are crossing the border – breaking the law – because of a perceived “free pass” to citizenship. Our country has a public relations problem, which has been perpetuated by President Obama and his executive decree to defer action for 580,000 DREAMers.

Instead of sending a strong message that America will not tolerate lawlessness, the White House is on the verge of granting them – at least 5 million of them – the very thing they were seeking. With this attitude, there is no reason to think the flood of children and young adults will decrease.

Both the House and Senate are seeking to remedy the border crisis by throwing more money at the problem, yet neither bill addresses the real issue, which is stopping amnesty en masse, by executive order or otherwise. What good will $659 million or even $2.7 billion do, if we continue to accept those who enter illegally?

This is not the first time the Federal Government has claimed emergency status to increase funding to immigration issues. In 2010, a $600 million emergency border security bill was signed into law. Four years later, the American people have nothing to show for over half a billion dollars in “emergency funding.” Congress has yet to answer the question, “Why will this time be different?”
