At DHS, swallow the amnesty pill, or else…

A new investigation is underway [1] into allegations of workplace retaliation at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). A group of eight Republican Senators, led by Senate Judiciary Chair Chuck Grassley, say they’re aware of retaliation against DHS personnel who are “faithfully discharging the duties of the offices in which they serve.” In other words: personnel who aren’t pushing the amnesty agenda.

According to a letter the senators sent to DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson, there are “multiple allegations of targeting and retaliation against DHS personnel who refuse to comply with this Administration’s willful disregard of our immigration laws…”

Bottom line? If you work at DHS and don’t making Obama’s “enforcement” priorities your priorities, prepare for trouble.

It’s also disconcerting given President Obama’s recent comment during a MSNBC/Telemundo event in which he said immigration officers who failed to implement amnesty protocol would be punished [2]. The allegations of workplace retaliation, however, cut to the core of the problem with Obama’s executive amnesty: his agenda doesn’t match the law.

So what are DHS employees to do? Follow and enforce our laws? Or follow Obama’s liberal agenda? In an ideal world federal employees wouldn’t be forced to make that kind of choice. Too bad that’s only a pipe dream under this president.
