Keli Carender is widely credited as having held the nation’s first modern tea party protest on February 16, 2009, the day before the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act was signed into law, and three days before Rick Santelli’s rant. She is the Legislative Coordinator for Tea Party Patriots and travels across the country to meet and assist local groups with whatever they need, whether it’s speaking about issues or putting away chairs and cleaning up garbage after a meeting. Keli regularly speaks about budgets (both state and federal), transparency, self-governance, and the Health Care Compact.
Keli graduated with a BS in Biology and Math from Western Washington University and a Post-Graduate Certificate of Education in Secondary Math from the University of Oxford in Oxford, England. She has previously worked a waitress, a bartender, a cashier, a tutor, a temp, a lab technologist, and a teacher. She has also lived and worked in Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.
Keli’s hobbies include improv comedy and she has performed with award-winning improv groups in Seattle, Oxford, Edinburgh, Chicago, Austin, and Honolulu. She is a fan of filmmaker David Nussbaum and has acted in many of his pieces (here, here, and here). In her downtime, Keli watches practically nothing but the Food Network, even though she sadly has little time to cook anything besides chili rice (which is awesome, btw).
Let not him who is houseless pull down the house of another, but let him work diligently and build one for himself, thus by example assuring that his own shall be safe from violence when built. -Abraham Lincoln
