WATCH: Attorney For Groups Targeted By IRS Brilliantly Educates Caller About The First Amendment

News-placeholder-2

As the congressional investigation and calls for President Obama’s IRS Commissioner John Koskinen to step down continued to heat up earlier this week, someone called in to a Washington Journal segment on C-SPAN with guest Cleta Mitchell – attorney for Tea Party Patriots and a number of other groups singled out by the IRS – throwing out an apparent hypothetical and saying, if he were an IRS official and aware of the anti-IRS stance of an organization, he would do all within his power to derail that organization. Ms. Mitchell wasn’t having any of it…

Townhall has the details:

“I am a lowly clerk at the IRS, looking at your application for tax-free status,” said Bill, the caller from Elizabeth, New Jersey. “I go to your web page to see the goals of your group and one of the goals of your group is to abolish the IRS.”

“You can bet every dollar you got I’m going to go after you and target you and try and end your group and that’s just the way it is,” he continued.

Mitchell, who was on the show to discuss the possible impeachment of Koskinen, informed the caller that that type of behavior was out of line.

It’s not the business of IRS personnel to give the thumbs up or thumbs down to an organization seeking tax-exempt status because of a personal vendetta or ideological disagreement with an organization. As Ms. Mitchell so eloquently says “…a government employee is not supposed to superimpose his beliefs or his judgement or his concern about his job over those of a citizen who has a First-Amendment right to express that opinion to abolish the IRS or to change the tax code.” Click here to help Tea Party Patriots encourage lawmakers to impeach IRS Commissioner John Koskinen!
