Twilight Zone: Harry Reid Calls Following the Law “Anarchy”
Since Obamacare became law, over 1,000 businesses have received special waivers from various aspects of its regulations. This year, the employer mandate was delayed, and more changes have been implemented via Executive fiat.
Many of these changes are flat-out illegal. As Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) noted in his filibuster on Tuesday, there is nothing in Obamacare that allows for the employer mandate to be delayed. Yet President Obama acted without Congress’ approval anyway.
It was therefore quite ironic to watch Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) declare the following on the Senate floor:
“We’re not going to bow to tea party anarchists who deny the mere fact that Obamacare is the law. We will not bow to tea party anarchists who refuse to accept that the Supreme Court ruled that Obamacare is constitutional,” Reid said in a blistering opening speech. “The simple fact remains: Obamacare is the law of the land and will remain the law of the land as long as Barack Obama is president of the United States and as long as I’m Senate majority leader.”
Anarchy is defined as “a state of lawlessness or political disorder due to the absence of governmental authority.” Using every legal maneuver possible to stop Obamacare is more lawful than, say, refusing to enforce laws because they don’t suit your purposes.
However, there are actual, recent examples of anarchy in the federal government that Senator Reid has fully supported:
• In July 2013, a Reid spokesperson said the President’s unconstitutional employer mandate delay was a-okay:
Adam Jentleson, a spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said the administration was showing “a willingness to be flexible.”
“It is better to do this right than fast,” said Jentleson in a statement.
• Senator Reid has had no problem with the Obama Administration’s law-breaking with regards to Yucca Mountain.
• When President Obama violated the War Powers Act in acting against the Libyan government, Senator Reid stood right with him.
When it comes to so-called “anarchy,” it is not law-abiding Tea Party activists or our allies in the Senate that are engaging in immoral, socially destructive behavior. It is President Obama and allies like Senator Reid, waving a kingly wand in a self-created “absence of governmental authority.”
You want anarchy, Senator Reid? Look in a mirror.
