Jenny Beth’s Journal: GOP Senators – Don’t settle, repeal Obamacare

Eyeglasses with newspaper and coffee cup

There is a contingency of 13 GOP senators who ran on the belief Obamacare needs to be repealed. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Obamacare should be “repealed root and branch” while Utah Sen. Mike Lee said “Let’s fulfill our Obamacare repeal promise immediately.” Entrenched D.C. insiders are hoping these more than dozen senators buckle and settle for less than what these 13 senators were elected to do – namely, repeal Obamacare. They mustn’t settle, says Tea Party Patriots Co-Founder Jenny Beth Martin in a recent column.

The Hill has the commentary:

As the Senate moves to take up ObamaCare repeal, the conventional wisdom among Washington elites is that the legislation will “move to the left” — that is, it will leave more of ObamaCare intact, and cost more than the American Health Care Act that passed the House last week.

That’s odd, given previous declarations by key senators who will be involved in drafting the legislation. Do the Washington elites simply assume that key GOP senators are all liars, or that they will deliberately break campaign promises made for years?

Rather than assign the task of drafting legislation to the committees of jurisdiction — the Finance Committee and the HELP Committee — Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has appointed a working group of 13 GOP senators spanning the ideological spectrum of his conference to fashion a repeal bill that can garner the votes of at least 50 senators.

The focus of Obamacare has never been to empower patients and their medical providers. It has squeeeezed middle-class Americans dry; forced small businesses to close their doors, leaving many unemployed or underemployed; forced American families to break ties with longtime medical providers; jeopardized patient care; forced Americans to pay for medical services they don’t believe in; left women in the exchanges high and dry because too few men are signing up. We could go on … Enough is enough. Click here to help Tea Party Patriots encourage our lawmakers to follow through on their promise to repeal Obamacare!
