House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan spoke out in support of H.R. 452, the Medicare Decisions Accountability Act of 2011, which passed the Ways and Means Committee earlier today. H.R. 452 repeals the Independent Payment Advisory Board, a federal agency empowered to administer cost-cutting measures in Medicare without Congressional oversight. According to current law, Congress must vote to override an action of IPAB. Repealing this section of The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, widely known as Obamacare, would force Medicare administrators to get Congressional approval prior to enacting cost-cutting measures. H.R. 452 is sponsored by Ted Poe (R-TN-1) and has 234 co-sponsors.
