Earlier today, the White House cancelled its tours “due to staffing reductions resulting from sequestration.” Tea Party ally Representative Louie Gohmert (R-TX) was on the ball, and within hours released the following amendment to H.R. 933, the Department of Defense, Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, and Full-Year Continuing Appropriations Act, 2013, AKA the Continuing Resolution for the rest of the fiscal year:
None of the funds made available by a division of this Act may be used to transport the President to or from a golf course until public tours of the White House resume.
It is clear the President isn’t going to let justice and decency dictate how sequestration takes effect. Perhaps public shaming will do the job. It’s too bad Rep. Gohmert and the rest of the nation has to respond to this petty, spiteful method of sequestration enactment instead of focusing on real issues – but actions have consequences and this was the President’s choice.
Shiny object, anyone?
