The IRS scandal is “solved.”  So said Democratic Representative Elijah Cummings.

“Based upon everything I’ve seen,” said Cummings, “the case is solved.  If it were me, I’d wrap this case up and move on.” Later, Cummings “clarified,” saying that what he meant to say was “witch hunt.”  As if that is somehow better.

Democrats are awfully fond of the phrase, “Move on.”  They use it whenever a Democrat is in the White House and gets mired in scandal.  When President Clinton perjured himself while in office and got disbarred, the Left told us to “move on.” They love that phrase so much, they even started a group – MoveOn.org – which seems to spend a lot of time giving political cover to misbehaving Democrats.

For instance: at the time of this writing, MoveOn.org seems to have already moved on and “disappeared” the IRS scandal down the memory hole.  There is not a single mention of the IRS targeting American citizens anywhere on the main page, and a search of the terms “IRS scandal” and “Lois Lerner” (the IRS official who admitted to targeting American citizens) produced nothing.  Zero.

If the Left believes it’s time to “move on” from the IRS scandal, then maybe Rep. Elijah Cummings is right.  Except…most American citizens, even those on the Left, are not ready to “move on.”  They want to uncover the truth about the IRS targeting of law-abiding American citizens.

According to a poll released on June 12, 2013, “Two-thirds of American voters (66 percent) think the Internal Revenue Service targeted conservative groups as part of a high-level operation to punish political opponents” and “More than three-quarters of voters (78 percent) want Congress to continue to investigate the IRS” – including 69% of Democrats.

Sorry Mr. Cummings.  The IRS scandal is not “solved,” and the American public is not ready to “move on.”  Not until we find out the truth, and put the IRS on notice that we will not tolerate them targeting American citizens for political persecution.
