STATEMENT OF TEA PARTY PATRIOTS NATIONAL COORDINATOR JENNY BETH MARTIN ON VITTER AMENDMENT TO SJR 19

“David Vitter gets it.  His amendment to prohibit elected officials, political appointees and their staffers from receiving taxpayer subsidies and special treatment shows that he understands the fundamental inequity of one set of rules for the political elite and a different set of rules for everyone else. If the American people can’t get an exemption from the disaster of ObamaCare, neither should Congress and the Obama Administration. By adding this amendment to Harry Reid’s measure stripping free speech from the First Amendment, Senator Vitter offers a striking contrast in how the two parties in Congress see the people they represent. ...

There are many ways to do this, and most of them originate at the local level, where creativity and dynamic thinking abound. However, coordinating all of these great ideas and efforts is important, and to that end Tea Party Patriots has created the Regional Support Team, which consists of five Regional Coordinators and one National Coordinator. As we come down the wire to Election Day, Tea Party Patriots will be highlighting the great work local and state-based groups are doing. These efforts are ...

There they go again: Mainstream media continues to not get the Tea Party!

It’s truly one extreme to another with the mainstream media  - they cannot understand a movement of people who are not trying to get something from the government, and are not structured top-down like most interest-groups and many political parties. For months they have been writing us off – as the Washington cartoon below aptly illustrates: (Lisa Benson, 5/10/2012; http://townhall.com/political-cartoons/2012/05/10/99134) But we have not been dying, we’ve been organizing; when Senator Lugar lost, the continued increasing strength of the tea party became obvious causing the media to the opposite extreme. Now they are calling us ...

Iowa farmer, former state rep: ‘[N]avigating the cumbersome tax code takes time away from our livelihood’

Former Iowa state representative and third-generation family farmer Annette Sweeney in a recent opinion piece says members of Congress need to join together and fix our unnecessarily intricate tax code. Lawmakers in Washington, D.C. have no excuse for not simplifying what should be a simple process, she says. The Des Moines Register has the details: I proudly represented the people of Iowa in the state Legislature for four years and I heard many complaints about our outdated tax system. Throughout the year, taxes are of major concern for Iowans; farmers file on March 1, individuals on April 15, and small business owners pay taxes every quarter. ...
