County governments want eminent domain to refinance mortgages

Governments in Chicago, San Bernardino, CA, and Suffolk County, NY plan to use eminent domain powers to provide mortgage relief. Created by Mortgage Resolution Partners, the plan being considered would allow local government to seize mortgages on homes of underwater borrowers using eminent domain laws. The bank holding the mortgage would then receive current fair market value on the mortgage, as opposed to the amount owed by the homeowner. Gregory Devereaux, administrator for San Bernardino County is considering the program, saying, "Federal programs have not been very successful at all and private programs have been of limited help." The local ...

Reports from the Grassroots: Linn County Tea Party Patriots – Iowa

On August 23rd I was honored to present to the Linn County Tea Party Patriots in Cedar Rapids Iowa at the local Godfathers Pizza. The owner is a strong conservative, and the Linn County Tea Party meet there on a weekly basis with as little as 10 people and as many as 40 people, depending on the night. Randy Lucore is the Coordinator of the group and works closely with his dad and others in that role. After announcements, the first thing we did was go around the room and get everyone say who they were and why they are fighting in the movement today. The stories were not unlike the stories we've all heard from patriots across the rest of the nation, ...

With more than 2 years under their belts, the Pierce County Tea Party in Washington State has been a pillar of the Washington grassroots movement in a very challenging state. Their specialty is great rallies on short notice, such as an impromptu protest of Jimmy Hoffa from a surprise visit, two days after his thinly veiled threat against tea parties everywhere and a well-executed rally against Obama’s excessive campaign stops in less than two weeks’ time. Currently, Pierce County Tea Party is raising awareness of Agenda 21 to the local and state legislature and can be seen in action this October 24th on the steps of the Capitol in Olympia ...

TEA PARTY PATRIOTS: GOP Praises Court Halting Amnesty: 'Impatient Presidents Don't Get to Change the Law'  “…Jenny Beth Martin, co-founder of the Tea Party Patriots, declared, "on to the Supreme Court." "The U.S. Constitution vests the Congress with authority over immigration and naturalization. And as U.S. District Judge Hanen pointed out, President Obama simply treated Congress — and Article 2 — as if they didn’t exist.  "We are a Constitutional Republic, not a banana republic," Martin added. "Our Constitution, with its three co-equal branches, is the roadmap for the governing process. "As much as this would-be imperial president ...

TEA PARTY PATRIOTS: Far left, far right unite on some issues in Congress “…Just last week, the American Civil Liberties Union and the Tea Party Patriots joined forces in a media blitz aimed at forcing Congress to reject a reauthorization of the NSA bulk data collection program. On Wednesday, Republican presidential candidate Rand Paul went to the Senate floor to rail against the NSA in a filibuster-style speech. Sen. Martin Heinrich, a New Mexico Democrat, joined him with a speech of his own. “Given the overwhelming evidence that the current bulk collection program is not only unnecessary but also illegal, we’ve reached a critical turning ...

HEALTHCARE: Costs trouble Obamacare enrollees “More than one-third of Obamacare enrollees aren't happy with the extra out-of-pocket costs they must still pay for healthcare. Thirty-seven percent of respondents to a Kaiser Family Foundation poll released Thursday said they're "somewhat" or "very" dissatisfied with their plan's deductible — a set sum consumers must pay for some doctors visits or treatments before their insurer steps in. Those on plans that meet the new requirements under the Affordable Care Act were more likely to report problems with costs — like being unable to pay their medical bills or skipping doctors visits because of cost ...

TEA PARTY PATRIOTS: Tea Party Group Teams With ACLU, NAACP On Patriot Act “Growing concerns about the Patriot Act’s renewal are creating strange bedfellows. The Tea Party Patriots and the ACLU are running TV ads urging Americans to “tell Congress [to] protect our privacy.” On top of that, the executive director of Iowa’s ACLU and Tea Party Patriots’ boss Jenny Beth Martin have coauthored an op-ed in the Des Moines Register on “the need for significant reforms to curtail government surveillance authorities, like some of those included in the Patriot Act.” And even the NAACP — which hasn’t always been kind to the tea party movement ...

HEALTHCARE: One in four Americans who got insurance still can’t afford medical care: Study “One in four people who bought health insurance on their own couldn’t afford medical care last year, according to a study released Thursday that shows out-of-pockets costs are still getting between Americans and their doctors despite Obamacare’s progress in cutting the ranks of the uninsured. Families USA studied people who purchased insurance in the non-group market — they weren’t covered through their jobs or a public program — in 2014, the first full year for which Obamacare’s marketplace was fully operational, and found 25.2 percent ...
