Last Obamacare exchange in one Iowa county set to fold

Yet another of the health-insurance exchanges set up in the wake of Obamacare’s passage will likely fold in the days ahead as it struggles to meet its bottom line. The Washington Examiner has the details: The Des Moines Register reports that after the exit of Aetna and Wellmark Blue Cross & Blue Shield from Iowa's exchange, the only other insurer in 94 of Iowa's 99 counties is plotting its exit as well. You might think the exit of all competitors would be a boon for the last remaining insurer, but this is not the case, thanks to two of the important Obamacare rules that are a constant subject of discussion: "Community rating," which ...

County governments want eminent domain to refinance mortgages

Governments in Chicago, San Bernardino, CA, and Suffolk County, NY plan to use eminent domain powers to provide mortgage relief. Created by Mortgage Resolution Partners, the plan being considered would allow local government to seize mortgages on homes of underwater borrowers using eminent domain laws. The bank holding the mortgage would then receive current fair market value on the mortgage, as opposed to the amount owed by the homeowner. Gregory Devereaux, administrator for San Bernardino County is considering the program, saying, "Federal programs have not been very successful at all and private programs have been of limited help." The local ...

On August 23rd I was honored to present to the Linn County Tea Party Patriots in Cedar Rapids Iowa at the local Godfathers Pizza. Randy Lucore is the Coordinator of the group and works closely with his dad and others in that role. After announcements, the first thing we did was go around the room and get everyone say who they were and why they are fighting in the movement today. The stories were not unlike the stories we've all heard from patriots across the rest of the nation, ...

Featured Group: Pierce County Tea Party

With more than 2 years under their belts, the Pierce County Tea Party in Washington State has been a pillar of the Washington grassroots movement in a very challenging state. Their specialty is great rallies on short notice, such as an impromptu protest of Jimmy Hoffa from a surprise visit, two days after his thinly veiled threat against tea parties everywhere and a well-executed rally against Obama’s excessive campaign stops in less than two weeks’ time. Sen. Ted Cruz: Repealing Obamacare is ‘a promise we can and will keep’

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) echoed other tea-party lawmakers’ sentiment that members of the House Freedom Caucus and more mainstream Republicans like Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) will come to a compromise and finalize an Obamacare-repeal bill that will be able to pass in both chambers of Congress. WFAA8 ABC has the story: "We must repeal Obamacare," said Cruz (R-TX). "I think that's a promise we can and will keep. We've got some more work to do." The GOP’s first effort collapsed spectacularly on itself last month when Republicans couldn't muster enough support in their own party to get the president’s proposal passed. When asked whether ...

Law-enforcement official: Less accountability for illegal aliens than for citizens

A local law-enforcement official at the forefront of enforcing our criminal and immigration laws says non-U.S. citizens who don’t comply are held to a different and lower standard compared to lawful residents. The Washington Examiner has the story: In a Senate hearing focused on the impact of crimes by illegal immigrants on Americans as far north as Wisconsin and Washington, Grant County, Wash., Chief Deputy Ryan Rectenwald described a gruesome murder in 2016 of Jill Marie Sundberg by a previously deported illegal immigrant who skipped out on an $8,000 bond. "He never returned for his hearing. No failure to appear warrants were ever issued," ...
