County governments want eminent domain to refinance mortgages

Governments in Chicago, San Bernardino, CA, and Suffolk County, NY plan to use eminent domain powers to provide mortgage relief. Created by Mortgage Resolution Partners, the plan being considered would allow local government to seize mortgages on homes of underwater borrowers using eminent domain laws. The bank holding the mortgage would then receive current fair market value on the mortgage, as opposed to the amount owed by the homeowner. Gregory Devereaux, administrator for San Bernardino County is considering the program, saying, "Federal programs have not been very successful at all and private programs have been of limited help." The local ...

Reports from the Grassroots: Linn County Tea Party Patriots – Iowa

On August 23rd I was honored to present to the Linn County Tea Party Patriots in Cedar Rapids Iowa at the local Godfathers Pizza. The owner is a strong conservative, and the Linn County Tea Party meet there on a weekly basis with as little as 10 people and as many as 40 people, depending on the night. Randy Lucore is the Coordinator of the group and works closely with his dad and others in that role. After announcements, the first thing we did was go around the room and get everyone say who they were and why they are fighting in the movement today. The stories were not unlike the stories we've all heard from patriots across the rest of the nation, ...

With more than 2 years under their belts, the Pierce County Tea Party in Washington State has been a pillar of the Washington grassroots movement in a very challenging state. Law-enforcement official: Less accountability for illegal aliens than for citizens

A local law-enforcement official at the forefront of enforcing our criminal and immigration laws says non-U.S. citizens who don’t comply are held to a different and lower standard compared to lawful residents. The Washington Examiner has the story: In a Senate hearing focused on the impact of crimes by illegal immigrants on Americans as far north as Wisconsin and Washington, Grant County, Wash., Chief Deputy Ryan Rectenwald described a gruesome murder in 2016 of Jill Marie Sundberg by a previously deported illegal immigrant who skipped out on an $8,000 bond. "He never returned for his hearing. No failure to appear warrants were ever issued," ...

Texas sheriff at expense of constituent safety narrows list of reasons to honor ICE detainer

The Lone Star State’s Travis County Sheriff Sally Hernandez trimmed the list of criminal offenses Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials give as justification to detain illegal immigrants, instructing her deputies to honor only a handful of the listed offenses and thereby excluding from detention an illegal immigrant accused of sexually abusing a young girl. The Daily Signal has the details: The sheriff’s new policy stipulated that only four exempted crimes—murder, capital murder, aggravated sexual assault, and human trafficking—would be grounds for her department to honor an ICE detainer. Unfortunately for the alleged victim of ...

Arizonans facing up 75-percent hike on Obamacare premiums

Arizonans enrolled in Obamacare had better re-evaluate their family budgets, as residents in 2017 will face premium increases as steep as 75 percent. The Washington Examiner has the story: Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona plans to raise Obamacare premiums by 51 percent, and Centene Corp. will sell plans in only Maricopa County at a rate of 74.5 percent, according to the Arizona Republic newspaper. Blue Cross will not sell plans in Maricopa, but it did agree earlier this year to sell plans in Pinal County after news reports that the county would not have any Obamacare insurers. Arizona is the latest state to face big premium increases. One ...
