Tea Party Patriots Weekly Legislative Update for 05/03/15

Listen to the podcast here: CALENDAR: The House will take a one-week recess, and return to work in Washington on Tuesday, May 12. The Senate will return tomorrow, with no votes scheduled before 5:30 PM. We anticipate they’ll be in all week.   LAST WEEK ON THE HOUSE FLOOR: So, the House started spending money last week. Even before the Budget Conference officially had come to agreement on spending levels for FY2016 and the rest of the decade, the House GOP Leadership had decided to move two appropriations bills to the floor – H.R. 2028, the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, and H.R. ...

Fall Training: Volunteer Recruitment and Voter Registration

Last night we were fortunate enough to have Christopher Doss from The Leadership Institute join us for our Fall Training Series of webinars. Chris brings with him three decades in political work -- including the administrations of three governors, a stint on Capitol Hill in Washington, and nearly twenty General Assembly sessions in Virginia and other states. Chris now serves as a lecturer for the Leadership Institute and travels around the US and abroad teaching campaign and grassroots strategies. On last night's call the focus was on the importance of building a grassroots volunteer network and identifying people who are going to vote for your ...

Tea Party Patriots Weekly Legislative Update for 9/7/14

House/Senate Action: Week of 8/25/14-9/7/14 The House and Senate both return tomorrow, and they’ve got a relatively light legislative agenda for the remainder of September. Remember, there are just ten legislative days scheduled as of right now – and I stress “as of right now,” because I’d be willing to bet the House is going to break two weeks from now, after just eight of those legislative days have passed, and not come back before the elections.   SEPTEMBER OVERVIEW: There’s really just one “Must Pass” bill that will see floor action before Congress breaks for the elections – the Continuing Resolution, which may ...

Today’s Passionate Patriot: Hans Marsen

When most Americans think of the Tea Party, they think of American citizens doing their best to improve the nation in which they can fully participate in the political process. Well, one prominent Kentucky Tea Partier can’t even vote – yet he is the state director for the Kentucky Tea Party Patriots. That Patriot is Hans Marsen, a naturalized British citizen who moved to America in 1976 because the level of local control in America left him thoroughly impressed with the American system of government. Hans has put a great deal of work into helping Tea Party Patriots’ first movie, The Determinators, be a success in his area, and that is one of ...

Today’s Passionate Patriot: Judy Pepenella

All Tea Party Patriot activists sacrifice for the sake of the country. Phone banks, protests, traveling, and many other activities are prioritized over sitting on the couch enjoying a relaxing movie. Today’s Passionate Patriot, New York State Coordinator Judy Pepenella, epitomizes that sacrifice. Let me say up front that Judy didn’t want this post to be about her. According to Judy, the movement is about the country; she’s just a participant. But between her personal story and a spectacularly successful event this past weekend at The Long Island Fall Festival, Tea Party Patriot Regional Support Team member Keli Carender insisted that Judy ...

Tea Party Patriots in Pennsylvania launch Get Out The Vote event

With the critical November elections less than 50 days away, Tea Party Patriots across the country are launching Get Out The Vote (GOTV) efforts. In the fight for fiscal sanity, limited government and repeal of the President’s health care law, Patriots are doing the hard work of educating the public on these issues. One such GOTV effort took place this past Saturday in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Don Reimer (who is the coordinator for the Philadelphia Tea Party Patriots) put together their first of many GOTV events for local activists. This event, while a learning experience for all involved, showed how national and local coordination can ...
