Proof Jonathan Gruber was more than just “some adviser”

New emails obtained by the Wall Street Journal confirm just how involved liberal MIT economist Jonathan Gruber was in crafting the Obamacare law. In case you’ve forgotten, Gruber is the policy wonk who was caught saying Obama’s health care reform bill became law thanks in equal parts to both lack of transparency and the “stupidity of the American voter.” Yeah, safe to say America didn’t think THAT was funny... Reports the Wall Street Journal [1]: Jonathan Gruber, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology economist whose comments about the health-care law touched off a political furor, worked more closely than previously known with the ...

Obama Lost Jon Stewart

Over the last couple of weeks, Jon Stewart has garnered a great number of conservative fans for his hammering of HHS Secretary Sebelius and another segment of his show dedicated to how the Obamacare website is falling apart. Last night, he dedicated almost 15 minutes of his show to bashing both parties in Congress, the President, the Obamacare website, and the NSA’s spying on Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel. While some of the content is questionable in nature – some language may be unsuitable for children – the political content is pure gold. Stewart skewered the absolute ridiculous nature of everything that is wrong in Washington. ...

Obamacare Loses Piers Morgan and Jon Stewart

Over the last several years, CNN host Piers Morgan has gained a reputation as an aggressive ideologue who toes the big government line on everything from guns to religious freedom. Jon Stewart, of course, is the liberal host of “The Daily Show” who recently took HHS Secretary Sebelius to school on Obamacare. It looks like the American people can officially count Morgan and Stewart as official critiques of the Obamacare rollout after last night’s shows. First up is Morgan, who interviewed White House Press Secretary Jay Carney: MORGAN: Joining me now is White House Press Secretary Jay Carney. Jay, thanks for joining me. As suppose you have ...

ABC’s Jon Karl: Teaching Textbook Media Bias

On Wednesday, ABC’s Jon Karl gave a perfect example of media bias during the White House Press Briefing: The President -- in this agreement, is there a little bit of ransom paid?  I mean, there is a provision in here that requires verification for recipients of subsidies under the Affordable Care Act.  MR. CARNEY:  The income verification provision to which you refer was negotiated by Senate Democrats and Senate Republicans and is a modest adjustment to the existing Affordable Care Act law.  We have always said we are willing to make improvements and adjustments to the law.  Ransom would be a wholly different thing and -- Well, it’s a ...

Jonathan Alter: Democrats ignore Social Security & Medicare reform at America’s peril

In budget debate after debate, decade after decade, the overspending crowd has done a great job of convincing the American people that overhauling Social Security and/or Medicare is equivalent to betraying senior citizens. Some even go so far as to say seniors will be in poverty and, in one case, Grandma will be thrown off the cliff. Yet not all supporters of bigger government are letting ideology overcome fiscal reality. On Friday, former Newsweek columnist, editor and current Bloomberg columnist Jonathan Alter wrote a column highlighting what other government programs will be cannibalized if entitlement reform is ignored. While his thesis is ...

President Trump’s labor nominee clears latest confirmation hurdle

President Donald J. Trump's labor-secretary nominee Alexander Acosta made it over the latest hurdle in his confirmation battle and will likely face an up-or-down vote on the Senate floor later this week. The Washington Free Beacon has the story: The Senate voted 61-39 to advance Acosta to a vote expected for Friday. Acosta was confirmed easily to three prior positions in the federal government, including a brief stint at the National Labor Relations Board. His nomination for labor secretary has garnered more opposition from Democrats, as Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) pledged to block President Donald Trump's cabinet appoint...
