CALENDAR:  The House and Senate are both in recess for the 4th of July break, and will not return until a week from Monday. LAST TWO WEEKS ON THE HOUSE FLOOR: The House came back into session on Monday, June 15. The Members dealt with seven non-controversial bills under the Suspension Calendar and renamed several U.S. Postal Service buildings. Meanwhile, the real action on Monday was taking place in the Rules Committee, where House GOP Leaders were working to buy themselves some time. As you may recall from our last conversation, the House had passed the TPA bill, but had failed to pass the accompanying TAA bill, and that left the ...

TEA PARTY PATRIOTS: Administration prepares for court showdown over Obamacare subsidies (Quote by Kevin Broughton) Argues law, negative outcomes if offsets reversed “Conservatives like Kevin Broughton, a spokesman for the Tea Party Patriots, said the administration and its Democratic allies have no one to blame but themselves after muscling their overhaul through Congress in 2010. “There has to be a presumption,” he said, “that the words in a statute mean what they say.” http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2015/mar/2/obama-administration-prepares-for-court-showdown-o/     HEALTHCARE: Dems call for open ...

Tea Party Patriots Weekly Legislative Update for 12/14/14

LAME DUCK CALENDAR:   The House is done for the year, for the session, and as far as we can tell, the Congress.   The Senate will come back in tomorrow, and will likely stay through only Tuesday afternoon, because Tuesday evening is the start of Hanukkah, and they’ll want to go home for good then. But it’s still Harry Reid’s Senate until January 6, so even though I don’t THINK he’ll do it, and he’d piss off a lot of Senators in both parties if he did, I won’t be surprised if he chooses to bring the Senate back into session later to finish whatever unfinished business he can.   OBAMACARE:   ObamaCare ...

Tea Party Patriots Weekly Legislative Update for 9/7/14

House/Senate Action: Week of 8/25/14-9/7/14 The House and Senate both return tomorrow, and they’ve got a relatively light legislative agenda for the remainder of September. Remember, there are just ten legislative days scheduled as of right now – and I stress “as of right now,” because I’d be willing to bet the House is going to break two weeks from now, after just eight of those legislative days have passed, and not come back before the elections.   SEPTEMBER OVERVIEW: There’s really just one “Must Pass” bill that will see floor action before Congress breaks for the elections – the Continuing Resolution, which may ...

Obamacare Exchanges: Young People Paying for the Elderly

This week, the prices for the exchanges under Obamacare were officially set into place. The news is not good for young people. From the Wall Street Journal: U.S. officials for the first time disclosed insurance prices that will be offered through new federally run health-care exchanges starting Oct. 1, showing that young, healthy buyers likely will pay more than they do currently while older, sicker consumers should get a break. The plans, offered under the health-care overhaul to people who don't get insurance through an employer or government program, in many cases provide broader coverage than current policies. Costs will vary widely from state ...

IRS taking heat from both sides of America

As is now well-known, the IRS admitted on Friday it had targeted “Tea Party” and “Patriot” groups for special investigation when they applied for 501(c)(4) status tax-exempt status. This is after the then-IRS Commissioner categorically denied any such targeting was taking place, even though higher-ups at the IRS have known about the investigations since at least the summer of 2011. The IRS is getting hammered for this egregious abuse of power, which the Wall Street Journal reports was worse than initially surmised – a forthcoming report from the IRS’ Inspector General (IG) notes investigations targeted those “worried about government ...
