New York congressman rips into VA over veteran’s benefits denial

Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-N.Y.) this week requested Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert McDonald issue an apology after his deputy undersecretary for field operations, Beth McCoy, in a House Committee on Veteran Affairs’ subcommittee hearing refused to acknowledge the military service of a veteran who suffered a traumatic brain injury and was wrongfully denied Veterans Affairs benefits. The Daily Caller has the scoop: [Veteran John Mitchell] applied for special monthly compensation owed to vets who have TBI, and Mitchell’s physician supplied all the requisite information to the VA, but the VA refused to take that information into consideration when ...

Study: Obamacare premiums to skyrocket

A new report out this week says premiums on lower-cost “silver” Obamacare health-insurance plans will go up an average of 11 percent in 2017 – a steep increase amid a stagnant jobs market and staggering levels of national debt many financial analysts predict will become unmanageable in the near future. CBS News has the details: For consumers, the impact will depend on whether they get government subsidies for their premiums, as well as on their own willingness to switch plans to keep the increases more manageable, said the analysis released Wednesday by the nonpartisan Kaiser Family Foundation. The full picture on 2017 premiums ...

Veterans Affairs secretary: ‘When you go to Disney, do they measure the number of hours you wait in line or what’s important?’

Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert McDonald Monday apparently downplayed the severity of the wait-list scandals that have plagued the department, left veterans without timely care and, in some cases, been the difference between life and death – a metric, the secretary implied, that should be trashed altogether. The Washington Examiner has the details: "When you got to Disney, do they measure the number of hours you wait in line? Or what's important? What's important is, what's your satisfaction with the experience?" McDonald said Monday during a Christian Science Monitor breakfast with reporters. "And what I would like to move to, eventually, is ...

Tea Party Patriots: Offensive comments by VA Secretary proves how “out-of-touch” the Obama Administration is with our veterans

ATLANTA, Ga – Tea Party Patriots CEO and Co-founder Jenny Beth Martin released the following statement today reacting to comments made by Veterans’ Affairs Secretary Robert McDonald comparing the length of time veterans wait for health care to the length of time people wait in line at Disneyland. “Today’s comment by President Obama’s Veterans’ Affairs Secretary that VA shouldn’t be judged on the amount of time veterans wait to receive care because Disney doesn’t use wait times as a metric in its amusement parks shows just how out-of-touch the Obama Administration is with the needs of veterans, and anyone who can't see the difference ...

(VIDEO) Tea Party Patriots CEO Jenny Beth Martin’s Remarks from CPAC

Hello, CPAC! You know, the President of the United States last addressed this gathering eight years ago. Do the math – it was a different president then. As he sat in the Oval Office, preparing for that speech, he came across a phrase in the draft that confused him. So he asked, “What is this movement you keep talking about in the speech?” The speechwriter, stunned, responded. “Well, the CONSERVATIVE movement,” he answered. “You know, the one that started back in the sixties, when conservative groups first took root.” That apparently didn’t sit well with the President. “Let me tell you something,” he said. ...

Former Veterans Affairs director pleads guilty to felony

Sharon Helman, former director of the Phoenix Veterans Affairs hospital, Tuesday pleaded guilty to a felony for hiding gifts from a lobbyist. The Daily Caller has the scoop:   The charge of filing a false financial disclosure carried up to five years in prison. Federal prosecutors said she took a car, cash, and a trip to Disneyland from a lobbyist and contractor seeking business at the hospital, and lied about the gifts, which were valued in excess of $50,000. Helman presided over a government hospital that systematically falsified data on how long veterans had to wait to see a doctor. The false data was used to insure that ...
