TEA PARTY PATRIOTS: Perry tells tea party group he was right to back Dewhurst over Cruz in 2012 primary Says loyalty bound him to his lieutenant governor, says more of this quality is needed in US politics “Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry told a tea party group Sunday that he supported his lieutenant governor against Ted Cruz in the 2012 Republican primary for the U.S. Senate out of loyalty — a characteristic, he said, that is sorely missing in American politics. During a conference call hosted by Tea Party Patriots, Mr. Perry said he endorsed then-Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst because of the strong relationship they had developed over the years. ...

HEALTHCARE: Study: 42 Percent of New Medicaid Recipients in the Last Two Years Were Immigrants “Almost half of the low-income Americans who have enrolled in Medicaid in the past two years are immigrants to the United States, according to a new report, suggesting that Obamacare’s large expansion in the program will disproportionately benefit immigrants as well. “The data show that immigrants and their children accounted for 42 percent of the growth in Medicaid enrollment from 2011 to 2013,” the CIS report says. Because immigrants are more likely to have low incomes or lack insurance from their jobs, they’re much more likely to be ...

Below are some of the news stories that we are reading today. LEGISLATIVE UPDATE:   Tea Party Patriots Legislative Update [Audio] https://soundcloud.com/teapartypatriots/09142014-legislative-update   HEALTHCARE:   Hurdles for Obama health law in 2nd sign-up season “Potential complications await consumers as President Barack Obama's health care law approaches its second open enrollment season, just two months away. Don't expect a repeat of last year's website meltdown, but the new sign-up period could expose underlying problems with the law itself that are less easily fixed than a computer system. Obamacare Increasing Costs for Disabled

One of the claims by President Obama was that the Affordable Care Act would help those with pre-existing conditions and the disabled. One Florida resident is finding this claim is more sales pitch than fact. According to Nancy Carabine, Obamacare is the cause of more – not less – cost for she and her husband. “I just got my new premium notice. My insurance went up $200 over last year. In years past, a $200 increase was for me and my husband, but since he’s gone on Medicare, this increase is just for me.” When she talked to a Humana representative about the increase, she was told Obamacare was the primary reason because costs were going ...

Hotel California, Obamacare-style: Come in, but never leave

From Ed Morrissey comes the headline of this post and some very bad news for those signing up for the exchanges. Via Politico: Once you finally make it into HealthCare.gov, it’s not clear how you get out. For those who’ve busted through glitches on the federal Obamacare insurance website to create an account, there’s no clear, obvious way for consumers to delete the accounts if they choose — at least not in the current incarnation. A POLITICO reporter used HealthCare.gov’s customer support chat to request that an account be removed, but the support agent said the request would have to be referred to an “advanced” customer service ...

Ethics are for the little people

In the real world, violating the law (or even the strong, likely suspicion of violating the law) brings down the wrath of one’s superiors. Apparently, not in Washington: House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is standing behind Rep. Robert Andrews (D-N.J.) despite calls for the veteran lawmaker to relinquish his leadership post while he is investigated on ethics charges. Pelosi and other members of the Democratic leadership, including Whip Steny Hoyer (Md.) and Caucus Chairman Xavier Becerra (Calif.), backed Andrews on Wednesday as he battles charges of using campaign funds for family trips. What did he do? Merely use campaign dollars for ...
