Today, the greatest threat to American prosperity comes not from abroad but from our elected officials.
Electing the “right” people is not enough. After our historic Tea Party victory in the 2010 midterm elections, when we helped usher in a massive new “Tea Party Caucus” and shifted control of the House, we still found ourselves battling against politicians to keep their word to restore America’s founding principles of Constitutionally-limited government, fiscal responsibility and free markets.
Were we surprised? Of course not.
To paraphrase Milton Friedman: it’s not enough to elect the “right” people, because even right people can go wrong. Our job, as Tea Party Patriots, is to make it politically painful for any politician of any stripe to do the wrong thing, and to make it politically profitable for all politicians of all stripes to do the right thing, namely: stand up for America’s founding principles.
How? By using the three P’s: (1) prod, (2) pressure, and (3) primary.
Please share your creative (and civil) ways to prod politicians, pressure the political process, and use primaries to facilitate liberty.
