#DCintervention Toolkit: Letter to Senator #1 (Stayed Strong)
April 16, 2013
The Honorable _____________________
Thank you for voting no on the cloture on motion to proceed on S. 649 last week. Your vote is a vote not only to uphold the Second Amendment and the United States Constitution, but also to stand against proceeding with a bill for which the legislative text had not been given to any Senator.
Both the content of the bills and the process through which they are passed are important to enable you to uphold your oath to support and defend the Constitution.
Without having the text of the bill prior to the vote, it is impossible to know whether the bills for which you are voting are in line with the Constitution.
The problems our country currently face run very deep, and the solutions to the problems are not going to be solved by passing bills, which have only title place holders and no legislative language. Congress will not solve these problems by abandoning the foundation for the rule of law in our country: the United States Constitution. As we have seen in the past 4+ years while the Senate has ignored deliberative, procedure and rules, mammoth bills are passed that attack freedom, create massive regulation, and have unknown effects on the US economy and US federal debt.
The Senate is about to see another such massive bill next week, regarding immigration, that is supposed to be released by the closed-door group who is writing this 1,500-page bill. Our country cannot afford another massive bill like Obamacare to pass without giving the American people and the US Senate time to read and understand it’s consequences. The bill will alter the entire immigration system, with far reaching consequences on everything – security, education, taxes, spending, welfare, culture, jobs, crime, etc.,
As your constituent, I request that you vote on the immigration bill and on all bills as you did last week: to uphold the Constitution and insure that the procedure and content within the Senate body uphold the Constitution as well. Know that when you stand up and fight for the Constitution and our freedom, I will stand with you and fight with you.
