The Senate may not pass a budget – again

With the retirement of Senator Kent Conrad (D-ND) came the opportunity for a new Senate Budget Committee Chairperson. Washington Senator Patty Murray became that Chairperson, and was immediately pushed to return to traditional budgeting in the Senate.
Unfortunately, Wednesday gave Americans bad news – while Senate Budget Committee Republicans formally pushed for a return to traditional budgeting, Senator Murray may not consider a budget for Fiscal Year 2014:
Murray’s office said Wednesday that she appreciates the suggestions but she is still working to determine whether to move a budget through committee.
Spokesman Eli Zupnick said fights over the debt ceiling, sequestration cuts and the 2013 spending bill will affect how the committee proceeds.
“Sen. Murray appreciates the input and will work with all members of the committee to put together a hearing schedule that examines all aspects of the budget and brings the voices of families across the country into the process,” Zupnick said. “With three deadlines coming up and many Republicans threatening to throw the federal government into default, the budget process has moved far from usual order and the path forward is entirely dependent on what happens over the next few months.”
“Sen. Murray will continue working with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to determine if moving a budget resolution through the committee is the best way to get the balanced and bipartisan budget agreement that the American people expect and deserve,” he added
To quote Ed Morrissey of Hot Air: “Yes, you read that right. The Senate Budget Committee chair is deciding whether or not to produce a budget. It’s a good thing that the Armed Services chair isn’t mulling over whether to have armed services. Or maybe I shouldn’t give Harry Reid any more ideas.”

stop their pay til they do pass a budget

WHAT!!!! get off your butts and pass a budget, or don’t get paid!
Unless and until the Republicans change their position on missusing and abusing the filibuster rule, the Democrats should not be concerned with a budget. Continuing resolutions have funded the government for 3 years now and should be continued absent cooperation by the Republicans.
The Republicans don’t realize it, but CR’s provide a better opportunity to reduce spending than does one massive budget!
During the past 4 years every hard working American has been forced to make cuts and difficult financial choices in order to live within their means. Borrowing from 401k accounts and working 2 jobs. While our elected leaders spend without regard for the sacrifices we make everyday.
Our leaders get handsome salaries and life time benefits.
If they can’t create a budget that ensures they live within their means then they should be fired. Thus, we need a constitutional amendment for a balanced budget.
Why would you still be questioning this. The majority of the Americans and (people who illegally voted) spoke last November, now have set new standards for all of us.
Hello every one new visitor, I believe Oboma’s inaugural speech was a warning to the GOP that he will be as partisan as ever he will give the illusion of listening to all the sides and negotiating and of course the media elite will help him. I also feel other then it’s the right thing to do there is compelling reason for him to negotiating Time Magazine voted him the man of the year simply because he got the uninformed to vote for him. As long as so many media outlets place him on a pedestal and the last word to describe the Republican party is unity so much ammunition is giving to the liberals. The GOP has given Oboma three months on the debit ceiling that is a lot of time to take it to WE THE PEPLOE to campaign and misdirect and place such a spin. Even if the senate does pass a budget who is going to hold the president to it or the poverty he has increased do not get there entitlements it certainly won’t be his fault he is a conman and will always be a step ahead. Unless we informed unite, motivate and inspire, utilize all resources and inform the uninformed, we can’t just hope things well get better or wait to see where his fundamental transformation leads us. God Bless
