It’s always the next fight in Washington

Earlier this week, Tea Party Patriots thanked the Members of Congress who stood against the terrible fiscal cliff deal that passed both chambers with overwhelming bipartisan support. The deal raises taxes and pushes spending reductions to a future date, failing two of Tea Party Patriots’ principles.
Some supporters of the deal have consoled themselves by praising aspects of the legislation that are not entirely terrible. They do exist – the bill prevented most planned tax increases from going into effect, and made many current tax rates permanent. However, those small positives cannot outweigh the deal breaking negatives of tax increases and infinitesimal spending reductions.
One argument made by some of the bill’s supporters is that it pushed spending cuts down the road by only two months, leaving Tea Party-minded Members of Congress the opportunity to hold the line at that point without the threat of higher taxes. Historically, that argument fails the test. Consider:
The April 2011 budget deal went from cutting $100 billion in a single year to cutting $68 billion – to cutting $38 billion – to cutting $380 million. Tea Party-minded Americans were told this was simply the first step in winning the budget battles. The next fight would be the big one.
Four months later, the debt ceiling debate arrived. In the end, Republicans and Democrats passed, and President Obama signed, the Budget Control Act. It cut less than 5% of the next decade’s spending; most of those cuts were pushed back to future Congresses. Once again, Tea Party activists were told to keep our powder dry for the next fight.
The fiscal cliff discussions were that next big fight, born out of the bi-partisan “supercommittee’s” failure – the same “supercommittee” created by the Budget Control Act. Once again Congress failed to act as good stewards of our country, instead choosing to shirk their duty.
Now, Tea Partiers are being told the real fights will be over the next four months. This is when the delayed sequestration cuts, the 2013 continuing resolution, and the next debt ceiling fights will arrive in front of Congress.
Washington has warped the definition of compromise from getting the best possible deal for the country into cutting a deal to save face. These “compromises” represent bad faith negotiations, dereliction of duty by representatives of the people, and colossal debt on the backs of our children and grandchildren. No more.

I am sick and tired of these people in Washington totally ignoring the people who elected them, giving themselves raises over and over, retiring with healthcare to which none of us have access, voting for bills which are laden with pork over and over and passing bills which they don ‘t read! Is this democracy? I fear that with the coming split in the Republican Party, the House will emerge in two years overrun with Democrats again. What can be done about the ignorance of the voting public and the government-schooled college students?
It sure is time for a Tea Party victory someplace. Heck, I’d take a victory that cuts cost by reducing the amount of paint used on school crosswalks.
Jerry, it’s a sad day when we consider a reduction in paint on cross walks as a victory in cost savings… But it true – we have been getting beat down like a red headed step child by the Democrats.
Hellfire,
I can’t find you using a site search. I wanted to communicate with you privately.
It has become the SOP to prolong what mite be deemed as unpopular until (they) can figure out how to blame someone else, instead of being a (statesman),I know outdated term and having the courage(backbone) to do the rite thing for O U R Country!!
There’s only one question that needs to be asked.
Where is the money going to come from to pay for the government?
To date, nobody on Earth has been able to answer that question.
It’s time to split the party.
its time for new party
I notified my republican “representatives” yesterday that I’m changing my party from republican, which I have been for 40 years, to independent. I’m tired of the misrepresentation from the party as a whole. I don’t know any other way to get across to them that enough is enough. In my state there is only Rep, Dem, or Ind…wish there was a Tea or Conservative party.
I’m fed up with what they’re doing to our country. If enough people left the party that would shake them to their core…we’ve seen what impact we can have on them…it’s time to take the next step and break from them!!
Baggers… pay attention. There are REASONS y’all keep getting stomped: Not enough people agree with you and your arguments do not persuade. Even what’s her name running this place doesn’t really do anything with it anymore, other than ask for yet more money. What of actual value can be found at this website, other than my insightful comments?
Baggers got no clue,
LOL
Evidently we exist to allow you a forum in which you can spew your mindless drivel. So go against your nature, be grateful.
But I AM grateful, and I should have mentioned it before. Without my powerful insights and words of wisdom this place would just be a huge waste of perfectly good bandwidth. So thank you.
Baggers got no clue
Your self aggrandizement is as vacuous as your mindless drivel. You’re welcome.
Something call the Liberty Party is being discussed on multiple TP sites.
Thanks to those Tea Party members who held the line and did the right thing for all Americans. See you later to those who tucked their tail between their legs. God bless America.
We need to open up our ranks. Look at the demographics! We need to bring in the Hispanics, single mothers, Asians and even gays into our ranks. Adapt or die.
That is the biggest mistake the Republican Party made. They didn’t define themselves as Constitutionalists and fiscal pragmatists. Besides, we won’t attract anyone that doesn’t believe in the Constitution and fiscal sanity. Romney was right. That 47 percent will not even consider voting any other way than Democrat.
Forget focussing on diversity. Let it happen on its own merrits. Stand for the Constitution and fiscal sanity. Those that make that their priority will come. Those that have other priorities, such as themselves first, won’t come. We alreeady have diversity. Allen West and Mia Love, for example.
What we want is anyone who believes in the Constitution. I don’t care what ethnic group they belong to. If you get sincere people, they will attract other sincere people. What we need is people that are sincere about saving the constitutional republic.
DB – Hispanics, single mothers, Asians and gays don’t believe in the Constitution? Don’t you see that we are becoming the minority? We need more votes not a more rigid, exclusive belief system.
Unless we start rigging voting machines or pass better voter suppression laws, we can never beat the Democrats without opening up our base.
DB – Hispanics, single mothers, Asians, and gay people don’t believe in the Constitution?
A person’s ethnic group and marital status has no relationship to their belief in the Constitution. Anyone who believes in the Constitution is welcome. To target people who don’t believe in the Constitution will accomplish nothing positive. A person’s race or marital status is inconsequential. Don’t pay any attention to that. The last thing wwe want is a group of people we have to accomodate that don’t share the core beliefs we hold to.
It’s a simple deduction. Any person who feels a sense of pride to be able to say “I support myself” is one of us. If they strive for self-reliance, they are one of us.
I am not the least bit concerned about anyone’s genetic makeup or whether they made the mistake of choosing some useless dirtbag to let impregnate them. Who are they today? Do they believe in the individual rights guaranteed in the Constitution? Do they believe in the concept of a constitutional republic? Do they believe in fiscal sanity?
Are they on the side of saving the constitutional republic?
Those are the only criteria I’m interested in.
Perfectly said!
DB – We live in a democracy and our base isn’t getting any younger. Passing voter suppression laws and redistricting can only carry us so far. We need more voters so maybe be need to be less rigid.
I think it is time for the Tea Party to act more like our famous forefathers who participated in that original “party”. We need to actively protest against our government and congress in a way that will sit up and make them pay attention. They just voted, again, to keep on taking our money and spending it without our permission. Fine. What we need to do now is to figure out a way to NOT PAY THEM!!! If everyone stopped paying taxes for this year, what do you think would happen to our lovely government leaders? There is a way to make this happen, but just as our forefathers were willing to accept the risk we also must be willing to accept the risk. If just all of the people who voted Republican in the last election stopped paying income taxes this year, what do you think would happen to our dear congressional leaders? Do you think that would get their attention? If you don’t then you didn’t learn a vital lesson from the last election – people vote with their pocketbooks. We have a vote that we are not using and now is the time to use it! If we wait, we may no longer have the opportunity.
Braines,
I agree. Unfortunately, I lament, withholding tax payments would get the wrong attention; penalties plus interest or jail. Don’t forget that most working people don’t control payroll withholding.
The tax protester movement died out about a decade ago.
That’s right, step by step, piece by piece, progressives are stamping out Liberty, and as they crush each part, we must simply resign ourselves to it being lost.
Will – I agree, we must still follow the rule of law. I consider myself a responsible citizen, and will continue to pay my share of taxes even if it is being wasted on deadbeat moochers.
Besides, I advise not messing around with the IRS, unless you are the top 1%, they will come after every nickel owed plus interest and penalties.
If we split the party, the RINOs have nothing. They will have to join the party they actually belong to and live off the scraps the Democrats give to judas dirtbags like them.
If we split the party, we will know that everyone on this side of the line in the sand is actually on our side.
If we split the party, we will have more representation in Congress than the RINOs.
We cannot get what we want done when we are being led by Democrats wearing a Republican costume.
Split the party. Turn majority over to the Democrats. Let the RINOs die out. We’ll fight for the Constitution and fiscal sanity from the side of the line drawn in the sand where we know everyone on this side of the line is actually on our side.
Braines, I have a way not to pay them, at least not as much as I have. I’ve looked at the charts of who gets taxed at what percentage under the new law. I’ve figured out what is the least amount I can live on, which also happens to be the least taxed amount. This week I will increase the withholding for my 403B enough to put me in that tax bracket. It’s only because I am frugal and have worked hard for many years to become out of debt that I can do this, and it will require a little more belt tightening. I’m willing to do without a few more things, because I refuse to give them one more penny to squander than I have to. I do realize I’m fortunate to have made it to a stage in life where I can live on little, and understand not everyone can. I just wonder if everyone who could were to try this for a little while, would it make any difference?
Braines,
When we elect poloticians we by the power of Constitution give them the durty to spend our money.
We don’t have the right to pick and choose. I would be an interesting experiment to have everyone vote online each week on what government should spend this week. War would not get many votes and help to children with birth defects would and of course the country would stop functioning when the vote was tied.
But the Constitution also restrains them, or is supposed to, to a few enumerated powers, beyond which they may not act, or spend money.
I don’t think they share that view
We need a third party as soon as possible. Let the conservatives leave the GOP. We can’t keep waiting, hoping they become conservative. They are not. They would rather side with the democrats than with the tea party.
It lock like it is the death of Gop Thank god . Racist Sexist Group of men . It seam that the tea party does not care for people in the Sandy path . Well I am not in the racist Tea Party . You Lost the election , America is not you . You are liveing in the 1850,
The Tea Party welcomes everyone who believes in limited constitutional government and free markets. Those are timeless principles. It’s you progressives who live in the past, and want to return to it. An evil past where people were ruled by their governments.
Obama won by a slim margin. I hardly think it means an end of the GOP. Regardless, the Tea Party movement is about limited government and responsible spending. Where do you think the money is going to come from to pay for the current spending levels much less the new spending from ObamaCare? We are practicing theft from our children and their children. That is a problem for everyone.
Rick, I believe it is beyond generational theft. I think it has gotten to the point where there is no source of money to fund the government in the near future. The proposal is for the Fed to buy Treasury notes. (Perhaps we should audit the Fed before we even begin discussion on that?) That is the same mistake many previous governments made when trying to invent funding for their government. Without exception, all collapsed. We won’t be the first exception in the history of the world.
There is no plan to fund the government. Therefore, there is no plan to prevent the collapse of our government. I don’t think the people running our government are so ignorant they are not aware o fthis. It appears their intent is to collapse the government, and then replace it with some other type of government of thier choosing. Any reasonable person will know that the exact same events that occurred in every other country that went through this process will happen here. We will see nothing different than what is known to have happened in Germany when Hitler changed the goverment there, and in the Soviet Union when first Lenin, then Stalin changed the government there.
We are staring civil war and mass murder right in the face if we don’t stop the insanity running our government today.
If we’re going to fight for the Constitution, we need to fight first in the halls of Congress.
Split the party.

Rick, based on past elections Obama won in a landslide. He took Virginia, Iowa, Colorado, Ohio and almost North Carolina. The demographics are changing, and we need to adapt before it’s too late.
Adapt to what? If you adapt and let the current insanity continue, there won’t be anything left to enjoy the fruits of adapting from.
Somebody has to save the country from the obvious collapse coming. The TEA Party is the only voice of sanity in Washington. Why should be join the insanity?
DB – You’re right! Let’s just continue doing the same and hope for the best. Maybe it’s true what they say, you can’t teach an old dog new tricks.
Greg,
Methinks your comment is the manifestation of the following.
“We are all born ignorant, but one must work hard to remain stupid.”
Benjamin Franklin
If we do not raise the debt ceiling aren’t we just saying we are going to live within our means? Why is that a bad thing? The spending has to stop.

Tea Party Nation wants to start a new party called the Liberty Party
I don’t see anything wrong with “TEA Party”.
It has the right meaning, and it has the right historical connotation.
Tes Party approval in national polls has dropped to 21% currently in contrast to close to 50% a couple years ago. In marketing terms we have a brand identification problem.
So that might be why they are looking at a new name.
Also there is no real “Tea Party”. We’ve got dozens of groups using that name. How do you seperate a political party called Tea Party from a group that calls itself a Tea Party and might have some unacceptable positions like racism. The Socialists would love to throw some of the stuff said in Tea Party blogs at the political Tea Party.
From what I can see the new thing will be called the Liberty Movement and the party the Liberty Party, at least from TPNs view point.
Good Point. There are other Tea Party movements that spew out non-sense about zombies, vampires, UN invasion from Canada, etc… We need to differentiate ourselves from these crazies to gain any real credibility and increase our ranks.
Hellfire,
Last I heard it was supposed to be an Arab invasion from Canada and a Red Chinese invasion from Mexico with the UN taking care of logistics, but I could be wrong. LOL
One reason so many Tea Party groups keep the crazies around is that they are good donors. Although some are starting to toss these folks out and mature into more rational political organizations
Especially, the whole birther issue. I really wonder how many of us still believe this? Wouldn’t you think Hillary and Bill Clinton would have brought forward any evidence during the 2008 Presidential Primaries? Bill is pretty smart, and wouldn’t the Koch Brothers, Sheldon Adelson, Big banks, Defense contractors and the other top 1% job creators use their immense resources and power to expose this lie?
Hellfire,
To say nothing of McCain and Romney not noticing. However some say that McCain and Romney were paid off to keep quiet. They didn’t say who paid them. It would take billions to buy Romney.
