Tea Party Patriots’ statement on Senator DeMint’s departure from the Senate

In light of today’s announcement that Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) is leaving the Senate to become the President of The Heritage Foundation, Tea Party Patriots National Coordinator Jenny Beth Martin released the following statement:
“Tea Party Patriots have been honored to work alongside Sen. DeMint for fiscal responsibility, free markets and Constitutionally limited government. While we are sad to lose a strong, conservative voice in the Senate, he will continue to be a courageous advocate for our principles in his new role. As Washington flounders in the midst of the so-called “fiscal cliff” crisis, it’s clear we need more leaders like Sen. DeMint to stand firm for Americans in the face of stiff opposition.”
Senator DeMint has been a leader on the Hill, and will continue the fight for Tea Party principles off the Hill. Tea Party Patriots is looking forward to working with him to take back our country.
I believe in the things the TEA Party stands for. Constitutionally limited government, fiscal responsibility and free markets. All wonderful ideas, which I continue to fight for. But, I think we need to reconsider our phraseology, ie; “Take our counrty back”. While I completely understand the sentiment, that paticular phrase gives a number of people pause. Perhaps we can try something along the lines of, “Rescuing our country”. After all isn’t that our ultimate goal? To rescue America from the tyanny of the ruling class? Just my $.02

As Senator DeMint must know, he was far more valuable to the cause of Liberty in the Senate than he will ever be at the Heritage Foundation.

Yeah well…You would probably be the people calling women witches in the Salem Witch Hunts and letting them burn on stakes… when it was all FAKE and pointless. The townspeople were using it to gain power (two fighting families) and to “repay” the women for grudges. They also used them as scapegoats for their problems. That’s partly why we have a court system now which is based om INNOCENCE first, not GUILT, specifically for reasons such as those.

As a life long native of South Carolina this is a tragedy. I can’t understand how Jim DeMint can be more effective outside the Senate than inside the Senate. He was our only Representive in the US Senate, the other one is a sell out RINO, Lindsey Graham. I hope His replacement will be full of the fire of Conservatism. If recent actions by Rino Boehner aren’t reason enough for the Tea Party and Conservatives to leave the GOP and form their own party I can’t imagine what the reason would be. Conservatives have no party, and maybe that had something to do with why He left.

On the contrary, I think as long as Jim Demint stays in the U.S. Senate, he is no more than a single vote for the conservative point of view. At the Heritage Foundation, he becomes an advocate for conservative options from a much larger stage with a much larger audience. Further, he can use the Foundations resources to groom and advocate an entire group of like minded candidates for future office. I find this most encouraging.
Craig, maybe not so much. Although he will no longer be in the Senate, he has a far less stressful job… This could mean that he has the next two years to start the ground work for a presidential run in 2016. With his new position, he will be going all across the country, gaining more name recognition, and getting his values out to more people. In two years he can then begin his early campaigning to get on the republican ticket, while training his successor at the Heritage Foundation. Tea Party senators aren’t just going to start resigning, I just believe that this happened at the right time for whatever DeMint’s future plans are.

I agree completely! I imagine working in the senate under the yoke of the UN-American Dirty Harry Reid must be an exercise inn basic frustration, and I’m glad he was there to help. Still, Nikki Haley will appoint someone in the short-term, and hopefully it will be a long-term benefit to the conservative cause.
Jim DeMint has my unquestioned support, and I am looking forward to working with the Heritage Foundation to create a new generation of conservative realists. Jim would not have been able to affect the debate in the senate, and why should he? Why should we? Why worry about bringing the country down? It’s not the country we inherited, and it’s not the country we want to give our kids. So what is it? Well, it’s the best we have, and we always have to do the best we can, with what we have. The best thing we can do, given the situation, is to hold up the mirror, and hope that causes adequate reflection on the cause and effect relation between big government and economic decline.
Mr DeMint has my deepest respects, I will have to trust his judgement on where he can best effect conservative values to his vision, knowledge, judgement and wisdom.
However it concerns me how he can call H Reid a good friend as I consider him nothing more then a cancer on our society, mildly stated.

Our local parties are very active (California’s Central Valley). Weekly meetings, classes… Just haven’t had any “parties” lately.
I just got off of the phone with Dexter Dawson of the DeKalb County group. I think that group and most others (like me) have been licking their wounds from the election and have been planning strategies for the next round and hopefully all local groups will be active after Christmas. I have been active on Twitter and have been signing petitions left and right to Nobama,, Isakson and Chambless and dear Hank J. on Benghazi, Boehner, Fast and Furious, 2nd Amendment etc. I have been contacting the sponsors of MSNBC about my dissatisfaction with that station’s continued hate-mongering and bais doing anything and everything through the National Organization but you are so right- we need to get back to local elections, get rid of the non-conservatives on the school boards, election boards etc. NOW! If I didn’t have so many skeletons in my closet, I’d run for something myself because I am fed up!!

The United Nations is partly what keeps the USA connected to the rest of the world. It lets the USA form treaties and alliances with other nations. To my understanding, the UN simply has been beneficial. What is wrong with a Universal Human Rights Agreement, and fighting for poor refugees in war ravaged countries (giving them shelter/food/ect.)? The UN is wonderful and we are one part of the whole.

It should be made crystal clear to everyone in government that our country is defined by the Constitution. Using a position in government to violate any part of the Constitution, such as instituting the requirements of some treaty that violate any part of the Constitution, is treason and rebellion against the government of the United States. The government is as described in the Constitution, and it exists solely to ensure the rights specified in that same Constitution are preserved for the current and future population of the United States.

Why do you idolize Thomas Jefferson, who called Native Americans “children” and that they should “adapt or be eliminated”? Jefferson owned numerous slaves as well on his plantation and had 6 children with one of his slaves, Sally Hemings, first when she was around 14-16. He also instituted the embargo, a drastic measure which seems the OPPOSITE of free markets and free trade.
He is my least favorite founding father.
Thomas Jefferson was not the father of Hemings children, his brother Randolph was. This was genetically proven by non-supporters of Thomas Jefferson. Those scholars were all PhDs and most department heads from Harvard, U of Virginia, U of North Carolina, Kentucky, Indiana and others.

And, what basis earns the title “historian”?
What you posted, quoted above, is nothing more than misleading propaganda intended to convince the audience that there was something conclusive discovered.
As it stands today, it seems most accepted that Jefferson’s brother fathered the children.

You are arguing not only with numerous scholars since 1998, you are also arguing and ignoring the credible Smithsonian Institute, the Thomas Jefferson Foundation, and the National Museum of American History.
That’s right Jefferson was the father of Hemings children. That would be Randolph Jefferson.
Actually, credible historians and those who weight factual information have dismissed the claims that TJ was the father of a slave’s child as incredible. Actually, Jefferson inherited slaves through his family the same way that you and I have inherited each other. He only bought slaves to provide them with safe haven at Monticello. As I tell my children, you are not responsible for anything that happened before you were born. Neither are you and neither am I. We can only go on from here. If feeling guilty and accusing others is all that makes you happy, I guess you can just go for it.
Good response. I would say that this stream is specifically not a church, nor does it need to be a church. Evangelicals have no monopoly on patriotism and those who pretend they do are the reason the conservative movement is held in such disdain by the ever so smug liberals. The constitution is a secular document written by men who recognize everyone’s right to be and believe whatever persuades them. The constitution specifically avoids any theological base and says specifically that there shall be no religious test for candidates for office. Those the exist are those we impose ourselves, against the expressed wishes of the founders. If a citizen chooses to be agnostic, that is his choice but does not preclude his service in office.

January 18th will be too late. We had better be there on January 6, the day the House of Representatives select the Speaker of the House for the next Congress. If Boehner retains the Speaker position, we will loose the Constitution. He has already offered it up to the Democrats in negotiations. Specifically, giving up the Constitutionally-assigned authority and responsibility of Congress to borrow money in the name of the government, and giving that authority to the president as if we’re some medieval fiefdom inhabited by serfs bound to the land.
The Constitution is not negotiable.

WM, You are sounding a bit extreme here. Jefferson did have kids with a slave….look in any decent histroy book. It’s inside the bubble thinking that lost us the electioon. Wake up and grow up
If everyone would stop replying to Blue, I think he would fold up his tent, and go away. Some folks will not understand until it is just to late. We can’t do anything about that, except ignore them, and stay focused on the task.

We are living in a time where it is very important for us to stay focused on the founding principles of this country. Our founders were inspired by God to a higher calling than themselves. This is where we need to get back to, and this is going to take more men, and women like Jim DeMint to accomplish. I pray that the leaders of this movement are focused on the Lord, and not there own agenda. America will not be restored to the great nation it was called to be without putting Him first. I don’t see any reference to America in the prophetic pages of the Holy Scriptures, however I do see many references to Christ, and His returning to restore order to this caotic world. He is the only hope we have at this point, and if the Lord chooses to restore America, its only going to be if we are an obedient people. Please don’t think I am requesting that we give up on our principles because it is to late. That is not my position at all, but think about it like this. Why would a holy God honor our selfish wishes. We really need to search deep into our hearts, and try to understand what our true motive is. If it isn’t lining up with God’s Holy word, then why would we expect different results than what we are seeing before us. Everytime I see, or hear someone talk about our position, God is alway’s on the outside looking in. We need to turn this around if we desire to take our country back. Is that really possible…well I guess we will have to wait, and see.
Your views, shown here, may have some meaning in a church setting but are exactly what it wrong with the conservative movement today. Liberals will cite this quote as a longing for theocracy. I reject this view as I do most things liberal. Still, you must realize that it is not necessary for you or anyone to hold strong religious views to be a conservative.
There are two pillars under our culture of today. One is the government about which we all have political views and the other is spiritual centered on the church. One simply cannot, constitutionaly, take a precept relevant to one pillar and use it in the other. That bright line is drawn in the establishment clause and the first amendment. For instance, the Supreme Court, a co-equal branch of the federal government, rendered its ruling on abortion in Roe v. Wade 40 years ago. Unless another case is brought that demonstrates new science on this topic, we must, like it or not, live with that. The burden now falls to the church to preach convincingly about not doing this though the government has already said all that it has to say on this subject. I would say that is you want to face the Lord on the last day of your life and explain to Him why you aborted one of his children, good luck. The church has plenty to say on this topic but the government must allow, but not support, your right to do so. It is legal. This is simply beyond the governmental purview. They have nothing to say about it. Likewise if you wanna marry another man or have gay sex, it’s your call. The church may preach against it though the government, and those who work within it, have nothing to say.
That is a truly conservative position; to keep the government from telling individuals how to live. We are all citizens. If we choose to be spiritual that is our choice. If we are male, female, black, white, christian, moslem or whatever, the government must allow us to be what we choose.
That is why most Republicans are not really conservatives. They must pull the Evangelical movement out of their ranks, root and branch, if they ever hope to be elected again. That and handling everyone’s rights as they would their own.
